Chapter 5
Everyone looked bewildered, and only after the reporters‘ explanation did they realize that I had donated three million to the orphanage last night.]
After a moment of confusion, my parents quickly snapped back to reality, their expressions lighting up with joy and excitement as they eagerly took the microphone.[]
Truthfully, the guests weren’t wrong earlier–Preston Corporation was indeed crumbling from within.[]
They wouldn’t miss any opportunity to turn their fortunes around.[]
“Yes, as soon as we heard about the difficult conditions at the orphanage, we took the initiative to have our daughter make a donation. Having experienced the pain of losing a child ourselves, we hope that every child can live a good life.”
“In fact, we’ve already decided to donate ten percent of our company’s annual profits to charitable organizations.”
They spoke passionately in front of the media, painting themselves as benevolent and selfless, completely oblivious to the fact that their precious adopted children were now glaring at them with dark, ugly expressions.]]
Only after they had indulged in enough self–glorification did they finally turn to me, their gazes filled with satisfaction and expectation.
“Valerie is just as kind–hearted as we are. Maybe she sold those diamonds for charity, too.“[]
When I didn’t respond, their expectant looks intensified.[]
But then, I spoke–turning their entire narrative on its head.[]
“But… I never did any of those things.”
As I finished speaking, I pulled out my phone and played a video for everyone to see.[]
It was footage from the jewelry store, capturing the exact moment Damon tricked me into signing the document.[]
“I had just bought my phone and thought the recording function was fun, so I kept it running the whole time.”
“And of course, it recorded the entire process of my dear brother coaxing me into signing the contract!“]
Then, I turned to Damon with an innocent look of confusion.[]
“Brother, coming home has already been so difficult for me… Why would you do this to me?“]
At this point, was there anything left to be unclear about?]
The crowd turned on Damon instantly, their once admiring gazes now filled with disdain.[]
“I really thought he was so refined, but it turns out he’s just that manipulative?“]
“A mere adopted son dares to push aside the real daughter of the family? Does he even know his place?“[]
“To be this malicious at such a young age… imagine how much worse he’ll become as an adult!“]

Damon froze for a second, furrowing his brows as panic flickered across his face.[]
“No. I didn’t-“]
“It wasn’t like that! If anyone is scheming here, it’s Valerie! Otherwise, why would she just so happen to record that? This video is edited–1”
But he had no proof.
And every word of his rebuttal sounded more and more desperate.[]
Slap!
A sharp, resounding slap landed across Damon’s face.]]
“How dare you frame your sister!“]]
My father was livid, his eyes filled with disgust.[]
Damon was completely stunned, his head lowered, his thoughts unreadable.[]
The reporters eagerly snapped photos of him, while Bella stood completely ignored.[]
But after all the effort she put into dressing up today, how could I let her go unnoticed?]]
Facing the cameras, I spoke again, “I’m not like Bella. I can’t just wear expensive gowns, drape myself in fur coats, and continue being my parents‘ little princess.]
“Maybe that’s why my brother looks down on me…”
My seemingly sorrowful words immediately drew the reporters‘ attention to Bella.[]
Under the bright lights, the supposedly ‘plain‘ dress she wore shimmered in dazzling colors.]
Her expression faltered.]
My father, unwilling to let Bella take the fall, raised his hand and delivered another slap–this time to Damon.]
“Who gave you the right to target Valerie? You’re nothing but a disgrace!“]
My mother, distressed, tried to shield Damon.]
“Kids make mistakes! Stop hitting him already!“[]
My father lowered his voice, but his tone was menacing, “Kids? Whose kid? Victoria Harley, I had a DNA test done on you and this bastard. He’s your biological son!“]
“I never loved you, so I was willing to overlook your past.“[]
“But this bastard of yours dared to play games under my nose, disturbing my household–so don’t blame me for what happens next!”
