The events of the banquet exploded across social media overnight.[]
Damon had utterly disgraced the Preston family and was being relentlessly dragged by netizens.[]
Meanwhile, my actions helped salvage my parents‘ reputation, shifting the blame to “poor upbringing” and painting the adopted son as a disgrace rather than a failure on my parents‘ part.[]
Over the next few days, my father was rarely home, but whenever we crossed paths, he would give me an approving nod.[]
“Good thing you handled it the way you did. Otherwise, we all would’ve been in deep trouble.“[]
A few days later, the scandal surrounding the Preston family gradually died down.]
But Preston Corporation was suddenly trending again.[]
My father had hired a lawyer and, with the board’s approval, finalized his will: upon his death, his assets and shares in Preston Corporation would be split evenly between me and Bella.[]
That very day, my mother, whom I hadn’t seen in a week, stormed back home in a fit of rage.[]
“I refuse to accept this! Everything you have today is thanks to my family! It’s one thing to give money to Valerie, but don’t you dare give a single cent to that bastard child!“]
My father sneered. “It’s my money. What the hell does it have to do with you?“[]
“No matter what, your bastard won’t be taking another penny from me!“]
Then, he pulled out his phone and waved it in front of my mother’s face.]
On the screen, a crystal–clear video played–footage of her and Uncle Jack, caught in the act, along with audio of them plotting to drug my father.
“Victoria Harley, I seriously underestimated you. You were even planning to poison me?“[]”
“If I hand this video over to the police, you know what the consequences will be.“[]
“So here’s your choice–walk away quietly with nothing, or not only will you be ruined, but your entire family will go down with you.“[]
My mother’s face twisted with fury. In the end, she clenched her teeth and spat, “Fine. You win.“[]
Just as she turned to leave, Bella smugly stepped forward and held the door open for her.[]
“Mom–oh wait, I mean Auntie–safe travels!”
“Oh, and one last thing… Don’t come back to bother me. Otherwise, Dad’s little video might just go viral.“[]
My mother shot her a deadly glare.]
Even I felt a chill run down my spine.

A woman who dared to plot murder against her own husband–how could Bella possibly think it was a good idea to provoke her?
I silently turned and walked back to my room.]
Then, I made a phone call to one of Damon’s friends.[]
“The fifty thousand has been transferred.“[]
“Make sure you remind him–my mother didn’t hold much power in the company, but my father is different. He’s a major shareholder in Preston Corporation.”
“And since Damon has no blood relation to my father, he should just lower his head and give in to Bella.“]]
“A little friction is nothing. Compared to money, what’s a little submission to your secret lover?“]
My parents divorced. My mother left with nothing, the price she paid in exchange for my father deleting all the photos and videos.
Now, regarding my father’s will, my mother no longer had any say in the matter.[]
Bella and I were officially named as the heirs to Preston Corporation.[]
But the day after the news was released, Preston Corporation was trending on social media again.[]
Several photos from the banquet surfaced–Bella’s extravagant dress and jewelry were magnified, with their price tags prominently displayed.]
“At her sister’s welcome banquet, who was she dressing up for? Girls like this wear their ambitions on their faces. We all know what she’s after!“]
My father was displeased with the online criticism, so Bella tried to clarify things herself.[]
But how could a few of her weak statements compare to the army of online commenters I had prepared?]]
“Look at Bella Preston–such an extravagant lifestyle… Tsk. If her parents were really as noble and charitable as they claim, would they have raised a daughter like this?“]
“I was her classmate for years. She wasn’t just wasteful–she was arrogant and a bully. She tormented classmates at school, and because her family was rich, all of it was swept under the rug.“]]
“Aside from the real daughter who wasn’t raised in the family, is anyone in the Preston household actually decent? Would you really trust anything they sell? I sure wouldn’t!“[]
