After all, they had only accepted her recently. To them, she was just a biological daughter, nothing more.
Narissa thought, ‘Of course, I can never compare to Cressida in their eyes, since she has grown up by their side all these
years.
‘Since they don’t trust me, there’s no point in staying with the Everton family. I’m done with this childish game of playing house. It’s about time I left.’
“Narissa!” Amanda called out, her voice thick with tears as she suddenly pulled Narissa into a tight hug.
Narissa stiffened in shock.
She’d braced herself for rejection and blame, but never expected Amanda to give her a hug full of apology and regret.
She thought, ‘Wait, is she actually crying?‘
She could feel Amanda’s tears soaking right through her clothes.
“Narissa, you poor child. Just how much have you been through out there? It breaks my heart!” Amanda sobbed.
Cressida’s eyes went wide in shock as she watched the scene unfold.
She thought, “This isn’t how it’s supposed to be.
‘Wasn’t Mom supposed to be furious and demand answers from Narissa?
‘Why is she hugging her instead?‘
At that moment, Hector walked over and pulled both Amanda and Narissa into a big hug.
“My child, you’ve suffered so much. Why didn’t you tell us sooner? You must have been carrying all this by yourself,” he said.
He gently patted Narissa on the back. “Don’t be scared. You’re home now. We’ve got plenty of money–no more going hungry or freezing, and you’ll never have to please anyone again.”
Hector took out a bank card and handed it to Narissa.
He said, “There’s 700 thousand dollars on this card. It’s your pocket money. If it’s not enough, just ask me for more.
“From now on, stay away from those sketchy people. Your mom and I will take care of everything for you!”
Narissa always thought that if the Everton family ever found out what a mess she was, they’d be disgusted and want nothing to do with her.
But it never crossed her mind that all they’d feel was guilt, heartache, and a desperate urge to comfort her.
This was nothing like what she’d expected. It completely turned her view of people upside down.
What Narissa didn’t realize was that, as her parents chose to accept her, the fortress of ice she’d built around her heart finally began to crack.

Narissa wondered, ‘Is this what it feels like to be favored and trusted without conditions?
‘I have never experienced this before.
‘But it actually feels very nice.
Cressida protested, “Mom, Dad, I already showed you the evidence. How can you still take her side…”
Amanda said, “Cressida, come here. Narissa has suffered a lot. From now on, we all need to treat her even better.
“As her older sister, you should take even more care of her and protect her, understand?”
Amanda’s words stung Cressida to the core.
This was not at all what she wanted.
She wanted her parents to kick Narissa out.
Hector declared, “Narissa, we’re not eating here anymore. You’ve been through so much, and from now on, your mom and I are going to make sure you have the best of everything.

In true boss fashion, Hector marched his family to the hot spring resort’s buffet, determined to let Narissa try every single dish she’d ever missed out on.
Cressida watched as Narissa was flanked by their parents on both sides, while she felt invisible, forced to silently follow behind them.
The difference stung her deeply.
Cressida fumed inwardly, ‘Narissa did such shameful things, so why are Mom and Dad treating her even better?
‘All this love and attention should have been mine!‘
Cressida followed her family into the buffet, feeling glum. Since it was so close to the beach, the place was loaded with fresh seafood. The king crab there was legendary.
Amanda led Narissa straight over to the seafood section.
All the seafood was kept alive and fresh. If the customer wanted anything, an amazing chef would prepare it for them right there on the spot.
