Chapter 5
Hannah was hauled off to the police station. []
Since we weren’t in the country anymore, she was completely reliant on her “friends” to bail her out.]
And, predictably, she blew through her remaining money trying to smooth things over with them.
Soon, she was broke.
With no way to get back home, she followed these people down a dark path.
She was forced into the kind of business that, due to her size, barely paid.]
Her so–called friends would beat her, refuse to feed her, and within no time, she had lost weight.[]
And once she was thinner,
er, the customers came pouring in.[]
The sad part?
These people who hurt her, just because they were kind to her for a few days, she felt eternally grateful.[]
I couldn’t help but think back to how I tried so hard to win her love, only for it all to be a tragic waste.[]
The people who sold her off and laughed at her–sitting with the men who mocked her “She had it good and still messed it all
- up.
Stupid girl.“]
“Soon enough, we’ll sell her overseas.
“I’m telling you, the people here are already tired of her.“]
“She’s worth about two grand, tops.”
That was the last thing I remembered.
Then, I snapped back to reality.
I had already told William and my mother in law the news about my pregnancy.
“Those who are gone are gone. We spoiled Hannah because we lost Sarah, and we went too far.“[]
My mother in law nodded, her gray hair trembling as she spoke. []
“What she’s become. It’s our fault for pampering her too much“]
“You were right to cut ties with her.”
I didn’t outright tell them Hanmals had been the one to try and Jall us, but I hinted at it
“This daughter of mine… I don’t want her anymore.”
“She’ll never change.
and she won’t come back.”
Just like now, when Hannah found out I was pregnant, her first reaction was to grab a hoe and charge at me.]
Her eyes were bloodshot, like some demon from hell: “Bitch, I’ll make you and that baby dier“]
I had already called the police when she entered the village. [
They quickly subdued her and had her on the ground.[
My mother–in–law and William exchanged worried glances.[]
I knew they finally believed me.
That was the final thread of connection between us and Hannah, and it was officially severed.]]
We had spoiled her.
That was our mistake, and we paid for it with our lives.
But that was enough.
I watched coldly as Hannah screamed and struggled on the ground, my heart filled with nothing but bitterness.
