Chapter 4: The Moment Fireworks Explode
“Alright, David, let it go. Can’t you see Emilia clearly can’t afford it?” a classmate finally spoke up, attempting to defuse the tension.
But others, eager to stir up trouble, chimed in mockingly. “Where’s your lapdog Justin? Didn’t he used to follow you around everywhere? Isn’t he rich? Why not ask him to pay for you?”
“Didn’t you hear? Justin chased after her for four years without success, got his heart broken, and moved abroad as soon as he graduated
Emilia’s face flushed crimson. She indeed couldn’t afford the price of David’s expensive suit.
David glared at her, relentless. “If you don’t pay up, I’ll call the police and make sure you and your scammer father rot in prison together!” ||
Left with no other choice, Emilia turned to Timothy with a pleading look. “Mr. Stewart, could I trouble you to advance me 100,000 yuan from my salary? I’ll repay it slowly.” I
For Timothy, 100,000 yuan was a trivial amount, barely worth batting an eye over.
But Timothy remained indifferent, his expression unreadable as he looked away, uninterested in involving himself in such a minor matter.
David scoffed. “Still dreaming of being Mrs. Stewart, are you, Emilia? Wake up. Mr. Stewart has a goddess by his side now. Why would he waste his time on a maid?”
Receiving no response from Timothy, Emilia hesitated, then slowly and reluctantly reached into her pocket and pulled out a watch.
David’s eyes lit up, and he snatched it greedily.
“Well, well, a limited–edition Vacheron Constantin. You’ve been hiding a treasure! Alright, I’ll let this slide and won’t argue anymore.”
David eagerly pocketed the watch, its worth clearly several times the cost of his suit.
Emilia felt as if her heart had been clenched tightly in someone’s fist. That watch was the only keepsake her father had left her.
D
Dad, I’m sorry. I couldn’t even protect your last memento, she silently apologized. [
Her eyes stung with unshed tears, but she forced herself to hold them back.
No one here would pity her. They were only here to watch the spectacle.
Finally satisfied with the show, Sarah clapped her hands cheerfully. “Well, that’s settled. Let’s not dwell on this anymore. Everyone, come to the rooftop! Timothy prepared a fireworks display for mer“]
Surrounded by a throng of admirers, Sarali proudly led the way to the rooftop. []
As dazzling fireworks lit up the night sky, Emilia found herself momentarily lost in thought.
For years, Timothy had prepared a fireworks display for her birthday without fail
Back then, she was deeply moved by the fleeting beauty of those moments.
She never imagined that her love with Timothy would also be as brilliant yet ephemeral as fireworks–bursting gloriously before vanishing into nothing.
Caught up in her memories, Emilia didn’t notice a burning fragment of fireworks hurtling toward her.
The fiery shard struck her arm, and Emilia cried out in pain.
“What are you doing, making such a scene? You’re ruining the mood!” a classmate snapped in irritation.
Timothy frowned slightly and cast a seemingly casual glance in Emilia’s direction.
Her right arm was badly burned, a vivid patch of red marking her skin. She bit her lip and endured the pain silently, refusing to cry out again.
A classmate nearby noticed her injury and gasped in surprise.
Timothy’s chest tightened as he pushed through the crowd, striding toward Emilia.
Just then, another shriek pierced the air–it was Sarah.
Clutching her arm dramatically, Sarah whimpered, “Timothy, I got burned too. Can you take me to the hospital?”
Timothy hesitated for two seconds before turning back toward Sarah.
“Let me see. How bad is it?”
Sarah refused to move her hand away, hiding the fact that her arm was unscathed.
“It’s really painful, Timothy. Let’s just go to the hospital,” she mumbled.
Without further hesitation, Timothy scooped her up in his arms and walked away, not sparing Emilia a second glance. []
Emilia let out a self–deprecating laugh. For a brief moment, when Timothy had started walking toward her, she had thought he truly cared.
But now it was clear–he was only concerned she might ruin the mood.
Under the gaze of her classmates–some sympathetic, others mocking–Emilia quietly left on her own.
