Chapter 9
Janet hadn’t told anyone about this.
All she wanted now was to get her mom out of here fast.
Seeing the boarding reminder for three hours later,
Janet and her mom quickly packed their things.
Just as they were about to leave,
urgent pounding echoed at the door.
A middle–aged woman barged in, her tone sharp.
“Took you long enough! What were you doing?”
Janet frowned at the stranger. “Who are you? Leave.”
The woman eyed Janet’s face and clicked her tongue, ignoring the question.
“Son, her face… not ideal.”
“But no matter. As long as we find you a wife, we’ll make it work.”
Janet wondered if this woman was insane.
Then the man who’d assaulted her sister swaggered in.
Janet lunged at him, rage blinding her. “Get out! How dare you show your face here!”

The man just smirked, unbothered.
“Why not? You’ll be my wife soon.”
“This is my home now.”
“Your sister slept with me and ran off. Someone’s gotta pay.”

“Attorney Helen and Mr. Justin said if you can’t produce your sister, you come with me.”
Janet’s heart froze solid.
Just then, Justin walked in with Helen.
Helen maintained her haughty stance.
“Janet, be reasonable. Court session’s imminent, but your sister’s vanished. What’s my client supposed to do?”
“Either hand over your sister, or go with him.”
Feeling the man’s lecherous stare, Janet’s voice shook. “My sister’s dead. She won’t come back. Happy now?”
Helen paused, then scoffed. “Really? Lying about your own sister’s death?”
“Losing the case to me isn’t worth this.”
After the jab, Helen turned to Justin sweetly.
“Justin, what should we do?”
Justin pondered, then gripped Janet’s wrist hard.
“I told you this case matters to Helen.”

“Must you cause trouble?”
Janet’s eyes burned crimson. “I told you she’s dead.”
“What? Need her corpse in court?!”
Disappointment flooded Justin’s dark eyes.
He shoved Janet violently toward the man.
“Take her.”
The man whistled at Janet mockingly.
Her mom wept, struggling against restraining hands.
Janet shot her a look–Go.
Then she hung her head, feigning numb unresistance.
Only as the man led her past Justin did she whisper,
“You pushed me away with your own hands, Justin.”
“Don’t regret this.”
Without waiting for Justin’s response, she quickened her pace and left.
Janet was forcibly shoved into the man’s car by bodyguards.
After the car engine started.

She immediately chose to leap from the vehicle.
Janet didn’t even mind her scraped limbs, limping into the woods.
She knew this route well; the airport was nearby.
Just then, a message from Rachel appeared on her phone.

“Janet, I’m already at the airport. If you can’t escape, I won’t leave either.”
Janet’s eyes burned when she read the message.
Ten minutes later, Janet reached the airport, shaken but unharmed.
After clearing security with Rachel, Janet finally relaxed.
She gazed at the departing plane and squeezed Rachel’s hand.
“Mom, we can finally leave this place.”
