Meanwhile, at the office, Justin stared at the billion–dollar project in his hands, his mind throbbing.
He tossed the documents aside irritably. “I’ve been wasting my money on you all. Now even legal disputes land on my desk?”
“What? Is the entire legal department dead?”
His assistant glanced nervously at Justin. “Mr. Nelson, Miss Helen… she laid off everyone in legal last month.
Justin froze, disbelief washing over him.
“She fired them all, and no one thought to tell me?”
“Fine, no one informed me.”
“But how did HR approve this?”
The assistant lowered his head, silently fuming.
Everyone let Helen run wild precisely because Justin spoiled her rotten.
Even Janet–married to Justin for years–got steamrolled by Helen.
Who’d dare say no to her?
Justin rubbed his temples where veins pulsed. “Get Helen here.”
A knock sounded at the door immediately.
Helen’s deliberately coquettish voice floated in.

The assistant winced, watching Justin’s face darken to steel.
Lately, Justin and Helen had been sweet as honey.

Her magnanimous words only deepened Justin’s scowl.
He looked ready to explode.
Finally, he slammed the file in his hand straight into Helen’s face.
She stumbled, cracking her head against the corner of the desk.
A swollen bruise bloomed instantly.
Tears welled in her eyes as she gazed pitifully at him.
But his icy, emotionless stare made her shiver.
