Chapter 12
Helen’s eyes instantly reddened at the insult.
She was about to lose her temper
when Justin’s icy voice cut through the air.
“If this isn’t resolved, the company stands to lose at least three hundred million.‘
“Can you swear you’ll handle it?“.
Only then did Helen grasp the gravity, her face instantly turning pale.
She tried to speak,
but Justin had already dismissed her, snatching his jacket from the chair as he stormed out.
Justin drove restlessly beyond the city limits.
His phone buzzed with endless calls-
all about the company crisis.
Irritated, he finally answered. “For legal matters, ask Janet. Can’t you just
leave me alone?”
The words slipped out before he remembered: he’d sent Janet away himself.
An inexplicable pang twisted his chest.

He clenched his fists. “Fine. I’ll handle it. Stop bothering me.”
He hung up abruptly.
After a hesitation, he texted Janet:
“The Nelson Group hit a minor snag. Would you be willing to come back?”
“Let bygones be bygones. Just tell me where your sister is, and I’ll bring you home immediately.
)
“Janet, don’t be so stubborn.”

“Helen can be immature sometimes, but she’s still young.”
Every half–hour, he checked his phone

Frustration mounted until he nearly hurled the device away.
Yet beneath it, a restlessness grew.
In all their years together, Janet had never ignored him like this.
He rationalized: handing her over to another man was excessive.
Her anger made sense.
When Janet remained silent, Justin ordered his hacker to trace her sister’s last known phone signal.
The result came swiftly:
“Last ping was at your private hospital.”

“The hospital?”
Justin’s temple throbbed.
“When did she go there? Why did no one inform me?”
No one could answer.
Face dark, he revved his engine toward the hospital.
Throughout the drive, Helen’s messages flooded his phone.
The constant notifications chimed in his ears.
For the first time, he felt the impulse to block her.

Once, her small–town grit and strong moral compass had charmed him-
a faint echo of Janet’s younger self.
Novelty had intoxicated him.
But now, without Janet as contrast, Helen’s defiance just seemed foolish.
An hour passed. Call after call went unanswered.
Helen’s grip tightened on her phone until her knuckles whitened.
Then she lifted her gaze, eyes dark and sinister as they fixed on the doctor.
“Then you’re saying you can’t do what I asked?”
The doctor looked utterly helpless. “Miss Helen, why push this? You’re already the apple of Mr. Nelson’s eye. Why fake a pregnancy?”

Helen blurted out, too agitated to hold back. “That bitch Janet escaped. If she figures out what I did, I’m finished.”
The doctor resorted to a threat. “Miss Helen, don’t make this hard for us, and we won’t make it hard for you.”
“If you insist, remember this: that day you forged Mr. Nelson’s orders, telling every doctor in our hospital to ignore Janet’s dying sister and treat your dog instead. You cost someone their life.”
“You wouldn’t want Mr. Nelson learning about that, would you?”
Knowing she was cornered, Helen shot the doctor a cold and resentful glare.
She snatched her belongings and stormed out.
But as she opened the door, she found Justin standing there—veins bulging on his forehead, eyes red–rimmed with rage.
