Janet’s attitude had softened for a fleeting moment.

the last shred of compassion in her heart vanished.

Janet did remember.

“Say yes, and I’ll take you straight to them.
After a long silence, Janet nodded.
Delight exploded in Justin’s eyes.
He rushed to her side-
almost as if believing they still had a chance.
Eagerly claiming credit, he added,
“Janet, once you see them, you’ll understand my circumstances.”
