Chapter 28
Perhaps moved by his earlier sincerity,
Janet’s attitude had softened for a fleeting moment.
But now, knowing he’d hidden those people away,
the last shred of compassion in her heart vanished.
Justin spoke, his voice trembling slightly-
whether from anger or choked emotion was unclear.
“Janet, I know you hate me, but believe me, I never intended that.”
“I just need you to do one more thing with
g with me. Please.”
“Agree, and I’ll take you to see them immediately.
Janet frowned slightly. “What is it?”
”
Hearing her question, a faint smile finally touched Justin’s face.
He asked cautiously,
“Janet, do you remember how we got together all those years ago?”
A cold glint flashed in Janet’s eyes at his words, though she remained silent.
Clearly, she remembered but chose not to speak.
Noticing her reaction, Justin’s gaze turned bitter. He continued anyway.

Chapter 28
“Back then, I tricked you onto that boat. Told you it was malfunctioning…”
“Said we might not survive the day.”
“I told you–even if we died, spending my last moments with you would be worth it.”
“But you said… you said life only comes once. That we had to fight to survive, no matter what.”
‘You even paddled barehanded through that freezing lake, trying to get us back.”
Janet did remember.
She’d been furious then.

But Justin later surprised her with fireworks over the lake.
Under those dazzling sparks, he’d looked into her eyes and vowed to stay with her forever.
So she’d buried her anger.
Now, looking back-
Perhaps Justin had never taken their relationship seriously from the start.
His past kindness?
Merely keeping a tame bird.
When someone younger, more intriguing caught his eye,
he’d discarded her without hesitation.

Even this apology now-
was it truly remorse, or just resentment?
Janet realized she could use this to her advantage.
Her tone uncharacteristically gentle, she pressed,
“So what exactly do you want me to do?”
Seeing her openness, Justin couldn’t suppress a smile.
“It’s simple, Janet. I just want us back on that little boat together.”
“Even for a few hours–no, even ten minutes would mean everything.”
“Say yes, and I’ll take you straight to them.
After a long silence, Janet nodded.
Delight exploded in Justin’s eyes.
He rushed to her side-
almost as if believing they still had a chance.
Eagerly claiming credit, he added,
“Janet, once you see them, you’ll understand my circumstances.”
At first, Janet didn’t grasp his meaning.
But comprehension dawned quickly.

She did hate them.
This sight should’ve felt vindicating.
Yet deep down, Janet felt only…
These two should be punished by law.
Not tortured like this.
Justin looked at Janet’s shocked expression, feeling so excited that his whole body trembled.
