Chapter 6
After signing the papers, I got home. The first thing I saw when I opened the door was a pair of women’s high heels.[]
My usual house slippers were gone.[]
Seeing them, I knew exactly what was going on.[]
I unwrapped a new pair of disposable slippers and walked inside.[]
I immediately heard Hannah’s voice.
“Mr. Moore, you’re doing it all wrong. Here, let me show you.“[]
I walked to the kitchen doorway and saw them standing at the sink. Hannah had her arms wrapped around Liam from behind, her hands over his, an incredibly intimate pose.[]
Hannah was wearing my robe and my slippers, looking every bit the lady of the house.[]
Liam was wearing the matching robe and seemed completely comfortable with her closeness. They looked relaxed and happy.
They both laughed at something one of them said.[]
But usually, he’d get tense if I even got a little too close.]]
He’d told me he wasn’t comfortable with physical contact. Turns out, he was just uncomfortable with me.]]
I couldn’t help but snort.]
Just then, Liam happened to turn his head. When he saw me, he froze, then instinctively pushed Hannah away with a guilty look on his face.
“What are you doing back now?“[]
Hearing that, I found it funny.[]
As if I was the one in the wrong.[]
“Oh, sorry, Claire! I was just showing Mr. Moore how to wash vegetables. Don’t get the wrong idea.“[]
Her words were innocent, but her eyes gleamed with triumph and challenge.]
Like she couldn’t wait to see me break down in a jealous rage.]
The old me probably would have lost it, gotten into a huge fight with Liam, and demanded he throw Hannah out.[]
But I was used to it. Besides, I was about to leave, the house was sold, the deposit was in my account. I honestly couldn’t be bothered.]
“Well, you two carry on. I’m going to my room.“]

I said calmly and walked toward the bedroom.[]
Hannah blinked, a flicker of surprise in her eyes, clearly confused by my reaction.[]
Liam had probably braced himself for my anger too. My calmness made his voice sound awkward.[]
For the first time ever, he actually tried to explain.[]
“It’s Hannah’s birthday. She wanted to celebrate with us, so I brought her over.”
He would never have said that much before.]
er.”
He’d just have rolled his eyes and sneered, “If you don’t like it, you can leave.“]
I sneered inwardly.
I didn’t know whether to laugh because he only started explaining himself now that I didn’t care, or because he couldn’t even remember my birthday, yet he made sure to celebrate Hannah’s.[]
“Well, have fun.“[]
I said flatly and went into my room.[]
I had already packed most of my things. Anything I didn’t use often was already at my new rental. All that was left was some everyday clothes and books.[]
I was wondering if I should finish packing tonight when the door was suddenly pushed open.[]
Hannah walked in, holding a small slice of cake.]
She glanced around the room nonchalantly and snorted with laughter.
“This room looks a lot emptier than the last time I was here. Looks like you’re finally getting the hint and on your way out.“[]
I ignored her.
I just kept my head down, texting Olivia about the move.]
Realizing she was being ignored, Hannah’s face darkened. She took a few steps toward me.]
“I’m talking to you. Are you deaf?“]
I glanced up at her and scoffed. “Why are you so interested? It’s not like you’ll be moving in.“[]
“You-“”
Those simple words hit a nerve. Her face twisted with rage, and she lunged at me, grabbing for my collar.[]
Before I could react, we heard footsteps in the hallway. Hannah immediately threw the cake to the floor.[]
Then she shrieked and fell to the ground.[]

Chapter 6
“Hannah! What’s wrong?” Liam burst in.[]
He shoved me aside and rushed to help her up.]
I stumbled back. A shard of porcelain pierced through my slipper and into my heel. Bright red blood quickly welled up.[]
But Liam didn’t seem to notice. He was too busy fussing over a faint white scratch on Hannah’s hand.[]
It wasn’t even bleeding.]
“I’m so sorry, Mr. Moore. I made Claire mad again.“]
“I just wanted everyone to have some cake for my birthday, so I brought a slice to Claire… I had no idea she hated it…“[]
Hannah looked up at Liam, her eyes red–rimmed, the picture of innocence.[]
If I wasn’t the one she’d just attacked, I might have even believed her.[
But I’d never said I hated cake. In fact, because I rarely got to eat it as a kid, I actually loved it.[]
I talked about it every birthday. Liam used to tease me about it, saying I’d turn into a ball if I ate so much cake.[]
But with Hannah here, Liam had clearly forgotten. He pointed a finger at me, furious. “So you don’t like it, and that gives you the right to throw plates and push people?“]
“Claire, I thought you’d learned your lesson, but you’re still the same.“[]
“Apologize to Hannah right now. Or else… I can’t be with someone this jealous. We should just break up.“[]
He glared at me, his blustering rage almost comical.]
I couldn’t help but remember what I’d overheard outside the private room.]
He’d threatened to break up with me before, during our worst fights. Back then, I couldn’t bear the thought of it. I’d always be the first to give in, to plead with him. I even begged him on my knees once.[]
I thought he didn’t really want to break up, that it was just his trump card, his way of giving me an out.]
It was only later that I realized the truth.[]
He’d probably wanted to break up for a long time. That’s why the threat came so easily to him.]
But that was fine. I’d wanted to break up for a while now, too.]
If he hadn’t brought it up, I would have.
Seeing me silent, Liam must have thought I was scared. His tone softened.[]
“You’ve been acting so secretive lately. Probably busy planning the wedding, right?“]
“I know you don’t want to break up either.“[]
Chapter 6
“Just apologize to Hannah now-“]
Before Liam could finish, I cut him off, my voice calm and clear.[]
“No. I agree. Let’s break up.“[]
