Liam’s face turned ashen for a second.[]
But then, as if another thought occurred to him, he shot me a cold glare.||
“Claire, think carefully.”
“Companies have different strengths. That number alone doesn’t mean much.“[]
He was clearly implying that Olivia’s company was far less successful than his.[]
Initially, Olivia’s company had been a bit behind, mainly due to a lack of technology.
But now, with the technology improving and having landed a nine–figure project, her company was already stronger than Liam’s.
Besides, I didn’t think his company would continue to thrive in the current market.[]
On the contrary, with his management style and his favoritism toward Hannah, I was sure it was only a matter of time before things went wrong.
But I couldn’t be bothered to say any of this. He wouldn’t listen anyway.
Olivia didn’t bother to argue with him either.[]
“Is our driver here yet?” she asked me casually, ignoring Liam.]
I was about to check the app when a man in a driver’s uniform hurried over. “Ma’am? I’m your driver. Where’s the car?“]
“My car is too flashy. Let’s take yours,” Olivia said, nodding at me.[]
Without thinking, I handed the driver my key fob.[]
Less than two minutes later, he awkwardly pulled the top–of–the–line Porsche up in front of us.
“Wow, boss. This car is amazing. Must have cost a fortune.“[]
I realized what was happening and turned my head.[]
Hannah was staring at the car, her eyes shining.]]
Liam was lost in thought, his expression unreadable but not pleased.[]
Olivia shot me a triumphant smile and replied to the driver.[]
“Not too expensive. Just over two hundred grand. A company bonus.“[]
“By the way, my friend here needs a driver. You seem like a good fit. Interested? I’ll pay you twenty thousand a month.“[]

The driver was stunned. “Seriously?”
“Of course. If you don’t believe me, I can send you the contract right now.“[]
“Yes! I’ll do a great job, I promise!“[]
Olivia and the driver were chatting enthusiastically.[]
Beside me, Liam shot me a cold glare, then turned and walked away. Hannah hurried to follow him.]
Olivia and the driver finished signing the contract. I was surprised. “You really hired him?“[]
“Of course. It was already in the plan. You’re our tech backbone. You’ll be doing a lot of networking and drinking. We can’t always be calling for drivers.“[]
“Isn’t the salary a bit too high?“[]
That was way aboye the market rate.[]
At Liam’s company, my salary had only been fifteen thousand.[]

As if she knew what I was thinking, Olivia patted my shoulder. “Not at all. After all, when you’re drunk, your driver is the one holding your life in their hands.”
Seeing she had made up her mind, I didn’t argue further.[]

In my occasional downtime, I noticed that Liam, who had been posting constantly, had gone silent. Even Hannah had quieted down and stopped provoking me.[]
I figured it was because of Olivia’s little show.[]
I had thought that after this, Liam would finally give up and we’d be done for good.]
But then one day, as we were frantically trying to finish the project, Olivia suddenly came to me and said mysteriously, “Liam just called me.”
