I immediately sensed that something was wrong.]]
“Where are you right now?“]
Liam paused for a long moment before answering, “The rooftop.“]
I couldn’t help but think back to when we had just started the company. Due to a bad decision, the company suffered a huge loss. Liam was on the verge of a mental breakdown. One night, he wrote a suicide note and climbed onto the windowsill.[]
Fortunately, I found him in time. Otherwise, the consequences would have been unimaginable.
I thought he was rational enough not to do something so stupid again.
If I hadn’t known, I wouldn’t have contacted him. But now that I knew he might be in danger, I couldn’t just stand by and do nothing.
After a moment’s thought, I sighed. “Wait for me.“]
I quickly changed and drove back to that familiar place.
As soon as I opened the door, I saw Liam’s red, swollen eyes.]
A pipe had burst in the house, and the floor was flooded with water.[]
I took off my shoes and walked in. I saw that it was just a loose connection.[]
I tightened it with a wrench, and it was fixed in a few minutes.[]
“The building’s waterproofing is pretty good. You don’t have to worry about flooding the downstairs neighbors. Just clean up the water.”

Liam looked at me, his lips trembling.
After a long pause, he fumbled for his phone and transferred the money to me.[]

“You gave me too much.“]
I transferred the extra money back to him and showed him my phone. “See? Now we’re even.“[]
“We’re even.”
He muttered my words back to me.]
Finally, he gave a bitter smile.]

I ignored him and left the complex. On my way out, I saw a stray cat. I took the hundred dollars to the nearby supermarket, bought a sausage, and placed it in front of the cat.
Then I drove home.
I soon realized that Liam had also moved on.[]

The lawsuit accused me of stealing confidential company files.]
The evidence was very thorough.[]
