When I finished putting on makeup and came downstairs, Grayson was already sitting across from my mom.[]
They were making small talk, and my mom hadn’t stopped smiling.
She was clearly very satisfied with this arranged marriage candidate.[]
I cleared my throat lightly, forcing their conversation to stop.]]
Mom quickly called me over and pointed to the gift boxes piled up like a small mountain on the coffee table.]

Mom laughingly urged us to go out and have fun.[]

“Hope hasn’t been out to explore since she came back. I’m entrusting her to you today.“]]
