After warning Olivia, my mom turned around, glaring angrily at Mrs. Sullivan: “Ma’am, accidents are something no one wants, don’t keep saying things like ‘killed by bad luck‘ or ‘jinx‘! If that were true, you’ve been standing here with my daughter for so long, why hasn’t the heavens struck you with lightning!”
“To open up your mind and let your little brain develop again, don’t keep spouting this superstitious nonsense!”
Mrs. Sullivan’s face twitched with anger.
“James, you see? Both mother and daughter are so uncivilized!”
This made my mom laugh: “Yes, we’re uncivilized, and you’re primitive! You’re so noble, why don’t you keep your son in check, don’t let him come bothering my daughter!”
Mrs. Sullivan was shaking with anger, gritting her teeth: “Who knows who’s bothering who!”
“I saw your son not letting my daughter leave from two blocks away. If you don’t believe me, you can ask the old man selling green onions over there!” My mom pointed to the old man.
The old man had been watching the drama unfold and quickly stood up to testify when called upon.
“That’s right, that’s right. The girl wanted to leave, but he kept blocking her way, wouldn’t let her go. I saw it all clearly”
With a witness coming forward, it directly slapped Mrs. Sullivan in the face.
The people around also started criticizing Mrs. Sullivan, saying that as a mother, she only treats her own son like a treasure and other people’s daughters like grass.
Mrs. Sullivan was too ashamed to show her face, but before leaving, she didn’t forget to forcibly drag James away.
But Olivia wasn’t satisfied: “What’s not yours, don’t force it.”
I sneered, “If it’s really yours, others can’t take it away.”
Olivia wanted to argue back, but when she saw my mom pick up the green onions, she immediately turned pale with fright, covering her red hand and running away.

The drama was over.
To thank the old man, my mom bought a lot of vegetables from him and went back to cook a whole table of delicious food for Emily and me.
Emily exaggeratedly ate three big bowls of rice.
“Auntie, I haven’t eaten anything good this month. It’s fortunate you came!”
I raised my eyebrows proudly, one hand on my mom’s shoulder: “I’m not bragging, but my mom’s cooking skills can match a five–star chef!”
My mom waved her hand modestly: “I’ll make you some roasted meats tomorrow.”
“Yay!!”
Emily was as happy as a child.
Ding dong!
The doorbell suddenly rang.
I went to answer it curiously.
Unexpectedly, it was James!
Without saying a word, he directly took out his household register book: “No need for many words, actions speak louder. The weather is good tomorrow, let’s go to the civil affairs bureau to get our marriage certificate.”
