Chapter 2
Isabella’s POV
“Your heat cycle this month. Is it over yet?” he asked, like he was commenting on the weather.
I stared at him, not catching on. “Wh… what?”
He gave me a slow smirk, the kind that tried to pass for flirtation. “Babe, that was three whole days. I trust my marking skills. Come on, let’s head to the werewolf hospital and get you checked out.”
Kane grabbed my wrist and started pulling me toward the garage.
When I just sat there in the passenger seat, dazed, he sighed and reached over to buckle my seatbelt.
I grabbed his arm before he could. The words flew out of my mouth. “You’re taking me to the werewolf hospital to check if I’m pregnant? Kane, do you actually want a pup with me?”
He ruffled my hair, eyes full of fake tenderness. “What are you talking about? Of course I do. A girl sweet like you, a boy strong like me. Sounds perfect, doesn’t it?”
God, he was a good actor. If I hadn’t overheard what happened at the lodge, I might’ve actually believed him.
When we arrived at the hospital, Kane’s two pack brothers were already there. So was Liliana. Their eyes scanned me with something slick and unsettling, like spider silk brushing against my skin.
Kane pulled me behind him and looked at them. “Heard she might be pregnant. You here to celebrate?”
The blood test results came back quickly. Same as the home test I’d already taken. I was pregnant.
Kane looked at the report without showing a hint of emotion, but Liliana’s obvious displeasure couldn’t have been more transparent.
He turned to the wolf doctor. “Can we run a paternity test now?”
The doctor glanced between us a few times, clearly uncomfortable. “It’s only been three weeks. Technically yes, but it’s not
recommended-”
“Do it now,” Kane cut in sharply.
The doctor scrambled to explain. “It’s risky at this stage, for both mother and pup. We can’t use anesthesia. Luna will be in a lot of pain. Alpha, are you sure you want to proceed?”
Kane’s brow furrowed. He was already impatient. “No anesthesia, then. Just do what I said. Do you not understand me?”
The wolf doctor looked to me.
I gave him a bitter smile. “Go ahead.”
The test would take a week, but they were all too eager to get their answer. Couldn’t let it interfere with Liliana’s precious auction, could they? Who cared what I had to suffer in the process?
All around us, the crowd was already starting to whisper.
After the doctor took my sample, Kane dropped another bomb.
“My two brothers will be submitting samples too. Run comparisons for all three.”
The room erupted.
“Wait, what? This Omega was with all three of them?”
“Why else would she be rushing a paternity test this early? She doesn’t even know who the father is?”
“Her Alpha looks like that and she still messed around? If it were me, I’d have kicked her out of the pack already.”

No anesthesia. No mercy. A violent cramp tore through my abdomen. My vision darkened. Tears rolled down my face as I staggered out
of the exam room.
Kane rushed toward me, reaching out like he wanted to help.
But then Liliana suddenly turned away and ran off in tears.
His two pack brothers followed immediately.
Kane’s arm around me went stiff, then let go. I hit the cold hospital floor.
“Head back to the territory on your own. I’ll go check on Liliana.”
And just like that, he turned and ran after her.
Not walked.
Ran.
Even his footsteps were full of urgency when it came to her.
All around me, the pack menbers who had come to gawk started throwing out taunts.
“An Omega who lets anyone mark her deserves to be dumped by her Alpha.”
“Hey pretty girl, how much for a night? I can pay anything.”
“Pay? Please, she gives it away for free.”
I pulled myself up using the handrail, eyes fixed on my shoes. I moved step by painful step, ignoring them all.
By the time I made it home, it was already dark.
I gripped the doorknob, trying to steady my breathing, and pushed the door open. A thick wave of pheromones hit me in the face. Mixed with gasps.
Kane and Liliana. Their voices. Their heat. It felt like a blade ripping through my eardrums.
