Chapter 8
Isabella’s POV
My father got the call just as we were about to sit down for dinner.
He glanced at me,
just once, but it was enough to send a chill down my spine. Something was wrong. I could feel it. He stepped out onto the balcony and closed the glass door behind him. But I had always had sharp hearing a trait passed down through generations of
Ward Omegas.
I heard everything.
“You no longer have the right to call me father. Has the termination document not reached you yet? Unless you dissolve the bond completely, don’t even think about seeing Isabella.”
“You call yourself an Alpha? Haven’t you hurt her enough?”
“If you ever show your face again, don’t blame the Ward family if we decide to teach you a lesson. Get lost.”
I pretended not to have heard a thing. And my father pretended he hadn’t taken the call. We returned to our dinner. The clink of silverware against porcelain was a poor imitation of peace.
Back in my room, I started working with my father, learning how to manage the Ward estate.
Back when I was with Kane, my entire world revolved around being a proper Luna. My focus was always on supporting him, running his affairs. Only now do I see how narrow that vision was.
My life was never meant to orbit a single Alpha.
Kane was the past. I didn’t want to waste a second more on him.
We all thought the call was just a passing blip. But the very next day, Kane blocked our car.
“Isabella, I’m sorry. I truly am. Please, just give me a chance to explain. I won’t leave until you hear me out.”
My father’s fists clenched. He was about to open the car door when I gently stopped him with a shake of my head. “There’s no need, Father. The more you acknowledge men like him, the more they cling to the illusion of hope. The best thing to do is ignore him completely.”
I turned to the driver. “Keep going.”
Just as expected, the man who claimed he’d rather die than leave stepped aside the moment the car inched forward.
I let out a soft laugh. His so–called devotion didn’t even hold up to the threat of a bumper. All an act. All delusion.
In the days that followed, he blocked our car every morning. When that didn’t work, he went to the clan affairs office and tried to intercept me there. When the guards pinned him to the ground, he still shouted my name like a madman.
For the first time, I realized Kane was not just cruel. He was exhausting.
When I finally walked toward him, he lit up with hope.
“Isabella, you’re finally ‘willing to talk to me?”
I took him to a private meeting room. Better that than having him scream something scandalous in public again.
“What do you want? I don’t believe there’s anything left between us to discuss.”
He smiled, trying to be charming. “Isabella, I just want to explain.”
“Liliana and I grew up together in the same pack. We promised we’d always protect each other. When I bonded with you, I felt guilty. That’s why I kept defending her. But I’ve realized something. I love you. I don’t feel anything for her anymore.”
“You know what? The paternity test came back. That pup, it was mine. I was so happy. You can’t imagine what that meant to me. In that

moment, I knew. I wanted that child because it was ours. When I thought it might be someone else’s, I couldn’t stand it. I was going crazy with jealousy”
“That’s because of you.” My voice was ice. “Do you really rewrite your own memories that easily? You were the one who handed me over to those two Alphas. You were the one who let them mark me. And now you want credit for letting me have a child?”
“I, Isabella Ward, owe you nothing.”
