I shifted back warily.
But to my surprise, Dominic handed me the knife handle, his eyes red–rimmed:
“If it will make you feel better, take the knife. I won’t say a word even if you kill me!”
He said this, but there was no fear in his eyes.
Seeing me loosely grip the knife, the certainty in his eyes grew stronger. He was convinced I wouldnd I wouldn’t have the
heart to hurt him.
I didn’t expose him, but I didn’t soften my tone either:
“Is that so? But why? Don’t you love Vivian deeply?”
“If I’m gone, she can rightfully be your wife. Isn’t that perfect?”
It was just a probing question, but he swore in front of Vivian:
“Aria, believe me! I only found that bitch novel for a moment. She was just a toy to me!”
“I’ll have her dealt with right now!”
The callousness in the man’s eyes made me shudder.
If he had insisted on his love for Vivian, I might have thought more highly of him.
But he just coldly glanced at Vivian cowering in the corner and ordered his bodyguards:
“Send her to that psychiatric hospital in the suburbs. Don’t let her out again.”
The suburban psychiatric hospital was notorious for its harsh treatment of patients, with frequent use of electric shocks and physical restraints.
Not only did I look surprised, even Vivian raised her head in disbelief.
“You’re sending me to a place like that? Dominic, what about all your declarations of love these past five years?”
Faced with Vivian’s desperate questioning, Dominic’s expression didn’t change as he continued to prove his loyalty to
- me.
“Aria, it’s okay if you won’t forgive me now. I’ll wait for you, wait until you change your mind!”
“Tomorrow I’ll sign a postnuptial agreement transferring all my assets to your name. That way you won’t have to worry…”
Before he could finish, a knife suddenly plunged into his throat.
Vivian gripped the knife I had tossed aside, laughing maniacally:
“Your assets can only be mine! The position of billionaire’s wife can only be mine!”
“Aria doesn’t deserve it at all! I’m the one who truly loves you. Why won’t you believe me?”
Vivian spoke of love, but her hand stabbed Dominic’s body several more times.
It wasn’t until Dominic was barely breathing that the bodyguards snapped out of their shock and kicked Vivian away.
By now Dominic was barely conscious. Judging by the amount of blood loss, a major artery must have been hit. Even divine intervention couldn’t save him now.
He struggled to grasp my hand, a relieved smile on his face:
“Now I’m… really… atoning with my life… for you and our daughter…
“I’m sorry… Aria…”
His hand went limp in front of me.
In the distance, Vivian was handcuffed but still laughing hysterically,
I ignored them and calmly completed my discharge procedures.
A few days later, I saw news of Vivian’s suicide in prison on my phone.
She truly loved him deeply, unwilling to let him go even as a ghost.
But that had nothing to do with me anymore.
From now on.
The long night grows warm.
The past is forever gone.
