Chapter 12%
Unable to wait any longer, Florence decided to stop waiting. She held her belly and went straight home.}}
That night, Kai was still sleeping on the sofa as usual, reeking of alcohol.
When Florence quietly walked in holding her stomach, he thought for a second that it was me.M
He jumped up from the couch immediately, his voice filled with joy. “Carolyn, you’re finally back!” His eyes lit up and he reached out to hug me. “You’re not going to leave me, are you?”
Florence froze. The warmth and tenderness she had hoped for instantly vanished into awkward silence.
She paused, then lowered her head and whispered, “It’s me…. “80
Kai’s body stiffened and he slowly pulled back, an uncomfortable look on his face.M
He instinctively let go of her, his expression turning cold.
“You… why are you here?” Kai frowned, his voice low and tense.
“…” Florence lowered her head, a flicker of anger passing through her heart.
She forced herself to keep smiling, desperate to win his favor once more. “I missed you, Kai. Look, my face has healed perfectly now.“} Kai rubbed his temples, his usual patience gone. “Florence, you’d better focus on resting for the baby’s sake. Stop with these bizarre antics. Don’t show up when I don’t need you.“W
His words dripped with impatience, making it clear he wouldn’t waste another second on this.”
Florence’s heart gave a sharp twinge.
She realized that Kai wasn’t as infatuated with her as she’d imagined. She was just a temporary distraction and a substitute. He didn’t genuinely love her.
Unable to contain the anger in her heart, Florence desperately held back her tears.
She took a deep breath, almost gritting her teeth as she spoke, her voice trembling but with a hint of defiance. “Kai, don’t you … don’t you understand? You once said you loved me the most. I … I really do love you.”
Her eyes stared fixedly at him. “Even though you’ve never truly cared about me, I’ll still wait for you. I’ve always been waiting for you.“}
“I don’t want the material life you give me, nor do I want to be treated as a substitute. Can’t you look at me, look at everything I’ve done, look at the effort I’ve put in for you? I don’t care about the people around you, I don’t care about your past promises. As long as you’re a little good to me, even just a little, I’m willing to give you everything.”
She paused for a moment, a flicker of pain in her eyes. “You said you loved me, but you’ve never given me true love. You once promised me you’d always be with me, at least until the end.“W
“Kai, I’m trying so hard to love you. Why can’t you give me a chance?“W
Kai’s expression turned somewhat ugly.”
He didn’t show her even a hint of tenderness like he used to; instead, he became increasingly cold.}}
“Florence, you’d better be clear about your place.”
He interrupted her coldly. “You’re nothing more than a mistress. You have no right to talk about love. You stay here for a while, get some money and enjoy the material life I provide. As for love… don’t be delusional.”
Florence’s face instantly changed. She stood frozen, all strength drained from her.
She had never expected that in Kai’s eyes, she meant so little.W
His past gentle care, intimacy and all his concern had apparently been fake.
She gently bit her lip, watching Kai return to the house.
Florence forced herself to endure it, believing things would be different once the child was born.N
She couldn’t believe Kai would be so cold to her child!!
