Chapter 15%
Sebastian turned to me, his eyes filled with a deep understanding
“Carolyn,” he said softly, “I know you’re under a lot of pressure right now, but Scott’s condition is getting worse. If we don’t deal with it soon, he might get hurt even more “0
He paused, then continued, “Actually, besides Scott, I also want to talk about you. You’ve been through a lot yourself. You haven’t let up and you need help, too.”
I was stunned, my inner silence slowly filling with quilt.
He was right. I was mentally and physically exhausted. Beyond being a mother, I barely had the energy to take care of myself, let alone Scott’s psychological issues
My throat felt constricted.
Sebastian looked at me, then at the sleeping Scott. His gaze was deep and gentle.
“I’ll do my best to help you solve these problems, but you need to give yourself a chance and give Scott a chance too. You can’t carry everything alone forever.”
Listening to Sebastian’s words, an indescribable emotion welled up inside me.
Yes, I had been closing myself off, refusing help and had never truly faced my own heart.
Perhaps, as Sebastian said, I needed to let go of my stubbornness and give myself a little room to breathe.
I took a deep breath and finally agreed. “Okay, I’m willing to try. You’re helping me, but I don’t know how to thank you.”
Sebastian nodded, giving me a small smile. “This is what friends do. No need to thank me.”
I didn’t know how I could ever repay him, so I just quietly kept his kindness in my heart.
My recovery after the surgery went smoothly. The doctor said I shouldn’t be exposed to sunlight, so I had to stay in the hospital for now.
For me, this time wasn’t just physical recovery, it was a mental pause loo.
Scott remained by my side, carefully looking after me, asking occasionally if I felt uncomfortable. I tried my best to comfort him and reassure him
I often tried to cheer him up, asking if he wanted to go out and play, but Scott acted like a little adult, always refusing to leave my side for a second
As the days passed, I could feel his growing anxiety.
He clung to me more than ever. Even if I just stepped out of the room, he would insist on coming with me, as if he were afraid, I might vanish.
Every time I saw the worry in his small eyes, my heart ached as if pricked by needles.
Fortunately, Sebastian quickly arranged for a professional psychologist to provide regular counseling for Scott.
The therapy process was more complex and lengthier than I imagined. Scott’s emotions fluctuated wildly, but with Sebastian’s help, he gradually let down his guard and began to try to express his inner pain.
Whenever I saw Scott relax a little, it felt like a huge weight had been lifted from my heart.
Sebastian stood outside the hospital room, quietly watching Scott and me through the crack in the door.
Scott had just had a therapy session and looked much better than before.
His phone suddenly rang. He quietly stepped aside, picked up the phone and spoke in a low voice.
“Pull all of Kai’s people who are investigating me. Don’t let anyone know Carolyn and Scott’s whereabouts, especially him. He must never appear again.”
A firm voice came from the other end of the line and a cold expression appeared on Sebastian’s face.
He had already missed out on her for too many years. Now, no matter what, he wouldn’t let anyone disturb her life again.
He hung up and looked back at the ward. His gaze landed on me and Scott, filled with deep affection and unwavering determination.
For him, the regrets of the past were already painful enough. This time, he would never let history repeat itself.
