Chapter 19%
“You can’t blame me for everything!” Florence suddenly started thrashing violently, her fingernails leaving bloody scratches on Kai’s hand. “It was Carolyn who looked down on me first! Why does she get to be Mrs. Lockwood, while I have to be the shameful mistress hiding in the shadows? I’m more like… “N
“Shut up!” Kai’s grip tightened, watching her face turn crimson. “You don’t even deserve to compare yourself to her!”
Just then, the bodyguards stepped forward and pulled them apart.
Kai stood up and slowly, meticulously wiped his hands with a handkerchief. “Take her to the basement.“W
“No! Kai, I know I was wrong!” Florence kicked and thrashed wildly as she was dragged away, one of her high heels flying off. “Please, for the sake of this face… for the sake of how much I look like your ex–wife.“N
She couldn’t believe this man could be so heartless. When he loved her, he gave her everything, but now, his cruelty was astounding! Kai’s footsteps suddenly halted.
He turned back, looking down at her. “You’re right. It’s time to give this face back.”
The heavy thud of the basement door echoed.N
Florence was tied to a dental chair, the surgical light above so bright she couldn’t keep her eyes open.
Kai was calmly selecting tools from a metal tray. The clinking of scalpels sent shivers down her spine.
“Do you know what this is?” He held up a syringe filled with clear liquid. “A special antidote to dissolve fillers.”
Florence began to shriek hysterically until Kai plunged a sedative into her arm.
The drug took effect quickly. She felt her facial muscles stiffen, but her mind remained eerily clear.
“Don’t worry, I’ve hired the best plastic surgeon.” Kai’s voice, as he put on rubber gloves, was disturbingly clear in the silent basement. “He’ll help you restore your original appearance.“}
Cold alcohol swabbed Florence’s forehead and she heard the faint slice of a surgical knife cutting into her skin.
As warm blood trickled down her temple, she finally broke down, sobbing. “Kill me! Please, just kill me directly!”
Kai’s movements didn’t stop, his voice as gentle as if he were coaxing a child. “How could I bear to let you die? You owe Scott his hand and you owe Carolyn. You’ll have to pay it back slowly.”
As the doctor began removing the implants from her nose bridge, Florence suddenly let out an eerie laugh through the excruciating pain. “Kai, do you really think this will bring her back?” She spat out a mouthful of bloody foam. “The way she looks at you… there’s nothing left but disgust.”
Kai’s hand trembled almost imperceptibly before he pressed down harder on her shoulder. “Continue the surgery!“M
Three hours later, a mirror was placed in front of Florence.}]
As that woman stared back at her with a collapsed nose bridge and a twisted jaw, she let out a scream that sounded barely human.}
Kai lit a cigarette from the shadows. “Starting tomorrow, you’ll be staying in a mental hospital. There’s a mirror there. You can stare at yourself for the rest of your life.”
As he turned toward the stairs, Florence’s hoarse voice chased after him. “Kai! You’ll burn in hell too.”
Kai’s steps didn’t falter.”
When he pushed open the door, the morning sun stung his eyes.M
He pulled out his phone, dialing my number for the 37th time. It was still the same cold, automated voice. “The number you have dialed does not exist.”
Frustrated, he smashed his phone violently!?
Meanwhile, I had just woken up. The morning sun streamed into the room through the gaps in the curtains. I gently pushed open Scott’s door and found him already dressed in his school uniform, sitting on the edge of the bed, tying his shoelaces.N
