Chapter 22}
Sebastian had always been calm and composed, but in that moment, the corners of his lips lifted uncontrollably. Like an excited teenager, he suddenly pulled me into his arms.
“That’s enough.” His voice trembled slightly. “As long as you’re willing to give me a chance, I’ll wait as long
as it takes.”
Scott ran in from the living room, hugging a toy train. Seeing this, he blinked. “Uncle Sebastian, why are you hugging Mom?” Sebastian let go of me, then picked up Scott, laughing like a child who had just received candy. “Because I am so happy!“}]
Meanwhile, the divorce agreement had been sitting on Kai’s desk for three days.
The lawyer’s call came in again. “Mr. Lockwood, the lawyer representing your wife is pressing hard. If we keep delaying, the court might issue a mandatory ruling.“}
Kai’s knuckles rapped on the solid wood desk, each tap heavier than the last.
He stared at the frozen image on the surveillance footage, the moment Florence threw herself down the stairs. His eyes were terrifyingly sinister.
“Tell her lawyer I agree to sign,” he suddenly said, his voice hoarse. “But she has to retur
Hanging up the phone, Kai walked to the floor–to–ceiling window.
He should have realized it sooner.
to the country to sign it in P
The look in my eyes, from initial tenderness to later fear, finally turned into complete lifele
He’d been blinded by that face that looked so much like his late wife and thought no mor what he did, I would never leave.
“Go get ready,” he told his assistant, his fingers unconsciously rubbing the engraving on the Forever,” which he had personally carved when they got married.
“As soon as Madam’s plane lands, take her directly to Northlight Villa.”
As the plane landed in the familiar city, my fingers clenched tightly around my bag strap.
“Mommy?” Scott leaned against me anxiously. “Why are we coming back?“>
“It’s just a signature, it will be done soon.” I touched his head, but I felt inexplicably panic
The lawyer had said it could be handled remotely, yet Kai suddenly insisted I be there in person.

I had planned to come back alone, but Scott clung to me, unwilling to stay abroad by himself. So, I had no choice but to bring him with
- me.
As soon as we reached the arrival gate, four black–suited bodyguards blocked our way.
“Madam, Mr. Lockwood would like you to come with us.”
A chili instantly shot up my spine.
! instinctively shielded Scott behind me. “I only came back to get a divorce. Going to the City Hall will be enough. There’s no need to go anywhere else.“}
The bodyguards didn’t answer but reached out directly to take Scott.
The child screamed in fright. As I struggled desperately, a sudden pain shot through the back of
my neck.
In my fading consciousness, I saw Kai standing not far away, impeccably dressed in a suit, but his eyes were terrifyingly crazed.
In the primary bedroom of Northlight Villa, I lay quietly on the bed, like a pale porcelain doll.
Kai sat by the bed, his fingers hovering above my cheek, but he didn’t dare to actually touch me.
The doctor said I was just over–sedated and would wake up soon.
But when my eyelashes finally fluttered, his first reaction was to take a half–step back.
“Where’s Scott?” My voice was hoarse beyond recognition.
“He’s asleep in the children’s room.” His Adam’s apple bobbed. “Don’t worry, I won’t hurt him.”
The moment those words left his mouth, Kai himself found them laughable.
Wouldn’t hurt? The cries by the sulfuric acid pool still echoed in his nightmares.
Those words carried no credibility whatsoever.
I propped myself up and my oversized nightgown slipped, revealing a hideous scar on my collarbone.
It was a wound from the beast arena, still leaving a mark to this day.
Kai’s eyes widened.
He remembered how I curled up in a pool of blood that day and how he watched coldly, even hugging Florence tighter when I crawled over to beg for mercy.
