Chapter 9
Genevieve’s POV
“Gen, I was finally about to bloom. I don’t want to die. Please save me. Can you save me? Please?“N
I wanted to say yes. I wanted to tell her I’d protect her no matter what, that I wouldn’t let anything happen to her.
But in the blink of an eye, the dream shattered, and all I could see was her lifeless body, lying face down in blood.N
My sister was gone.
I had failed to save her.
But deep down, I knew. She didn’t want to die.
Even if I couldn’t bring her back, I swore I wouldn’t let her death be meaningless.N
So from that moment on, I started working harder than ever. Studying like my life depended on it.
I didn’t know what had driven her to suicide.N
But I believed that if I walked the same path she did and relived every moment she went through, I’d find the truth. And I’d get justice for her, no matter the cost.N
Even if it meant dying myself.N
When my request fell, I saw the surprise flicker across Captain Shelton’s face.M
His stern expression faltered, brows drawing together in thought. After a moment’s hesitation, he asked, “And how exactly is digging up your father’s grave going to prove your innocence? Our investigation shows your father died the year you were born.”
I didn’t answer directly. I just looked him in the eye and said firmly, “I just need to confirm something. If I’m wrong, I’ll accept whatever punishment comes. No excuses. But if I’m right. Then everything will finally make sense.“>
Maybe the moment I decided to become a top scorer like my sister, I’d already been marked by whoever was behind all this.
And now, I was trapped in their game.N
I knew that if I didn’t act fast, I’d end up like all the others, dead before the day was over.
So no. I wouldn’t just sit here and wait to die.N
I’d fight back with everything I had.
Captain Shelton studied me in silence.N
Just as he opened his mouth to speak, my mom suddenly lunged forward and grabbed his arm.
“You can’t do that!” she cried out. “My husband’s been dead for eighteen years. You can’t disturb him like this!”
Her voice was shaky. She looked panicked, almost frantic.N
The way she was reacting… it was too much. Even the crowd noticed.N
“Why is her mom so emotional all of a sudden?“N
“Yeah, that’s not just grief. She looks… scared.“N
“You don’t think there’s actually something hidden in that grave, do you?”
“I mean, it’s just an old grave from almost two decades ago. What kind of secret could it possibly hold?”
Speculation buzzed through the onlookers. Even the livestream chat exploded with theories.
Everyone was holding their breath, waiting to see what I would find in my father’s grave.N
I gave my mom one last, long look, then turned to Captain Shelton and said quietly, “Captain, if I’m right, then buried in that coffin is-” “Stop talking!“&
Before I could finish, my mom snapped at me, her voice sharp and desperate. Her face had gone completely pale.
Captain Shelton narrowed his eyes at the outburst.
He looked back and forth between the two of us, eyes sharp and calculating.N
Then he gave the order.
“Dig it up.”
A few officers moved in quickly and began digging.N
It didn’t take long before the top of a weathered, old coffin came into view.
The crowd fell silent as the lid was slowly pried open.
Everyone leaned in, straining to see what was inside.
And then gasps rippled through the crowd.
The coffin was empty. No corpse. No bones. Nothing. Just a hollow shell.
Stunned murmurs broke out immediately.
“Wait… what?”
Why’s there nothing in it? Even if the body had decomposed, there should’ve been bones, right?”
“There’s not even a smell. That thing’s been empty the whole time. It’s just a fake coffin!”
