Fraser asked again, more desperate this time. “Where is she?”
Yvette sprang to her feet, her emotions boiling over.
“Fraser, what the heck took you so long! If anything happens to Summer, I’m coming for you first.”
Xavier stepped in and stopped her. “That’s enough. Let it go.”
He looked over at Fraser. “She’s still in delivery. She hasn’t come out yet.”
Fraser looked up at the closed doors of the delivery room. The red light glowing above them was sharp and blinding.
His brow tightened. He said slowly but firmly, “I’m going in with her.”
Xavier spoke briefly with the doctor.
Fraser changed into a pair of sterile scrubs and walked in without hesitation.
The moment he entered the delivery room.
The room was thick with pressure; the air itself felt strained.
“Ah!”
A scream broke through the tension.
Summer was lying on the bed, fists clenched tight. Her forehead was drenched in sweat, strands of hair sticking to her skin as she gritted her teeth through the pain.
The obstetrician–gynecologist stood at her side, coaxing her along. “Mrs. Graham, push a little harder!”
Fraser froze at the sight. His dark eyes filled instantly with tears, rimmed red with guilt and heartbreak.
He moved forward fast and grabbed her hand, locking his fingers around hers.
I can’t take away the pain. I can’t fix any of this.
But in that moment, just holding her hand was the only way he could hold himself together.
Fraser’s lips quivered as he forced out the words in a raw whisper. “Summer. Summer. I’m here.”
Summer seemed to hear him. His grip was tight, maybe too tight, but she didn’t pull away.
She pushed her eyes open with effort, and there he was–the man she’d held onto in her heart through all the pain.
Tears gathered in her eyes instantly.
Fraser felt like someone had driven a blade straight through his chest. The pain knocked the wind out of him. His throat locked up as he choked out, “No more kids. We’re not doing this again.”
The obstetrician–gynecologist’s voice rose beside them. “Mrs. Graham, you’re almost there. One more push. Keep going.”
Summer was ghost pale. She couldn’t speak. Her whole body strained with the last of her strength.
Then-
Wah! Wah!
A baby’s cry rang out, clear and sharp through the room. It was like the first break of morning light cutting through the dark.
The obstetrician–gynecologist broke into a smile and called out, “She’s here, Mr. Graham. It’s a girl.”

The VIP suite was quiet; the kind of deep, gentle silence that felt like the world had pressed pause.
On the bed, Summer slept with her lashes curled like tiny feathered fans. Her features were soft, her face pale and lovely; she looked like a portrait come to life, frozen in peace.
Fraser sat beside her without moving. His hand gripped hers tightly, holding it against his cheek like he never wanted to let go.
In his other hand, a letter rested–written in Summer’s handwriting.
She must have penned it not long ago.

I had wanted to talk to you for days, but I kept dozing off.
The baby was probably saving up energy, getting ready to meet us.
You were always busy during the day.
And at night, by the time you got home, I was already asleep.
So when I had a quiet moment, I wrote you this letter.
