Chapter 3
I locked the window right after I said it.
The room was on the first floor, just one window away from the yard, but Philip didn’t dare make a scene.
He carried Kate in his arms, paused by the window, and threw one last line at me before leaving.
“Tahlia, I don’t love you.
“Even if I die, I’ll never marry you.”
Watching his retreating back, I just stood there, completely baffled.
The next morning, Andrew left on a business trip. I figured it was the perfect time to visit the Gorman family’s ancestral grave–to break the
curse.
But just as I was about to leave, Philip blocked the door.
His face was dark. His eyes burned with controlled rage.
“Something wrong?” I asked.
He slammed the door shut and glared. “Tahlia, I didn’t think you’d stoop this low.”
I let out a cold laugh.
He paraded Kate in front of me last night, deliberately provoking me, humiliating me–and now I’m the villain?
“Last night, Kate’s private photos were leaked–put up for auction.
Over 3
“As a woman, using that kind of revenge… It’s disgusting.
“Don’t think that ruining Kate’s reputation means you’ll get to marry into this family.”
I glanced at Kate, only to see her flinch and hide behind Philip.
“I didn’t leak those photos.
“I never wanted to marry you. I wouldn’t scheme just for that.
“If you don’t believe me, go ahead. With your resources, trace the IP…”
His brow twitched at my words–I never wanted to marry you.
I wasn’t faking it. My face said it all.
He started looking unsettled.
But then, Kate suddenly spoke.
“Philip, let it go. You already made a bid and got all the photos back.
“Let’s just drop it, okay?
“This is all my fault anyway. I made Tahlia mad. If she needed to vent, I get it…”
She sounded like she was trying to smooth things over, but every word was laced with smugness, flaunting how far Philip would go for her.
And sure enough, Philip’s heart softened even more. “Tahlia, don’t tell me
you
think you can bully Kate just because my grandpa believes you’re the key to breaking the curse?”
I stared him down, cold as ice. “Then prove it. If you’ve got real evidence I did it, I’ll apologize to Kate right now!”
I turned and walked out of the Gorman’s residence.
But I didn’t get far. A group of thugs dragged me into an alley.
The one in front slapped me across the face.
He grinned, eyes leering.
“Hey pretty, someone paid us really good to show you a very fun time!”
