Chapter 10
Alexander changed into a fresh suit and met up with Sarah outside the hospital. Hand in hand, they slipped away and boarded a private jet as planned.
Their first stop: Northern Europe.
“We’re finally free,” Sarah beamed, snuggling into his chest as the plane took off. “They say couples who see the Northern Lights together stay together forever,”
Alexander gave a tight smile but didn’t respond right away.
He wasn’t as excited as he thought he’d be.
Somewhere in the back of his mind, an image surfaced–Allison, standing motionless at the hospital, her face unreadable as he “died.”
There hadn’t been a single tear,
She used to love him so much…
His brow tightened. Was she just putting on a brave face? Hiding her pain?
Was she planning to end her life after he was gone?
“Alex? What are you thinking about?” Sarah tilted her head up to look at him, a little p
He blinked, snapping out of the thought. “Nothing. Just tired,”
“Good,” she replied lightly, already bored with the answer.
She curled closer to him, pressing her cheek to his chest
pout in her voice.
“You promised we’d go to that Michelin place right after we landed. Don’t even think about backing out just because you’re tired.” Alexander nodded, but again, his thoughts wandered
Allison never asked for things like this,
When she heard he was tired, she’d quietly rub his temples, then brought him a cup of milk–no words,
The way she looked at him was always soft, patient.
She never made demands.
His chest tightened again.
Why was he comparing them?
There was no comparison
He had always loved Sarah.
He forced the thought from his mind and leaned down to kiss her hair.
words, no pressure.
This was what he wanted–freedom, escape from his family’s expectations, and a life with the woman he chose.
By the time their plane touched down, Alexander had convinced himself he was fine.
He took Sarah to that Michelin–star restaurant she’d been dreaming about, then out shopping for designer pieces she didn’t need.
They checked into a penthouse suite at one of the most exclusive hotels in Scandinavia.
As soon as the door closed, Sarah pressed herself against him.

Her arms wrapped around his waist, lips brushing his jawline, then trailing down his neck.
She kissed him–hard–then started undoing the buttons on his shirt, her eyes sultry, her hands tracing slow circles across his chest.
Her legs tangled around his, pulling him closer.
Alexander’s pupils darkened as his breath caught in his throat.
Desire flared hot between them, and he swept her into his arms and threw her onto the bed.
She was eager and demanding. She gave herself to him with a hunger he hadn’t seen in Allison.
And for three days, they never left the room.
They explored each other with reckless abandon, drowning in lust and sweat and silence.
On the third night, after another round, Sarah laid across his chest, her fingers drawing lazy shapes over his skin.
“Alex,” she murmured, “will you marry me?”
His body tensed.
His heart skipped a beat.
“I mean….” She sat up slightly, resting her chin on his chest. “Don’t you want a real future together? Kids? A home?”
Alexander hesitated.
“That sounds… complicated,” he said, eyes fixed on the ceiling “This is good, isn’t it? No paperwork. No pressure.”
Sarah frowned. She had never planned to spend her life wandering in the shadows with Alexander.
She wanted the title Mrs, Rockwood–and everything that came with it.
She wanted their children to carry the Rockwood name, to be heirs to the legacy she’d clawed her way into.
Alexander turned his head away. “We’ll talk later,” he added, clearly avoiding the subject.
Sarah’s gaze darkened. But then, she smiled sweetly and climbed back on top of him.
“If you don’t want to get married, that’s okay,” she whispered, brushing her lips against his. “I’ll follow you with or without a ring.
She kissed him again–deep and slow–pulling him back under.
They spent a full week in Northern Europe, cut off from the world.
No calls. No news. No emails.
They had no idea what was happening back in the States.
They didn’t know that while they were wrapped up in luxury linens and designer sex-
The entire Rockwood empire was burning behind them.
