Chapter 12
Clearly, the guy hadn’t recognized whose car this was yet–they just thought the driver’s skills were insane.
He quickly shouted through the walkie–talkie, “Yo, bros, did you guys see that sports car just zoom past all of you?”
Soon, replies started coming in.
“Yeah, saw it! That car looks so familiar. Who’s driving it?”
“Since when do we have someone this good around here?”
“Man, I’d love to see this person go head–to–head with Jaylen.”
The chatter from the guys got broadcast to everyone on the track via walkie–talkies.
Jaylen heard it too.
Even though this racetrack was public, with no official race happening, the track wasn’t cleared, and any gearhead could jump on the track right now.
So, there weren’t many people racing at this hour.
Who could it be?
He couldn’t help but check the rearview mirror.
One glance and bam–even he froze like a deer in headlights.
There was actually a sports car behind him, moving like it was on wheels–zipping and weaving through traffic at breakneck speed, closing in on him.
The way it was moving? Totally pro–level.
But that was not what shocked Jaylen. What stunned him was…
‘Isn’t that the exact car I picked out for Narissa? Which means… the person driving it is Narissa?
‘No… no way!
‘How is that even possible?!‘ He couldn’t believe it.
“Oh my god. I remember now! Isn’t that the Everton girl’s car?”
“OMG, is it really her?”
“Is she that good?”
“These driving skills… insane! She’s giving Jaylen a run for his money!”
“Wait… is Jaylen actually gonna lose?”

Once the guys realized whose ride that was, the comms channel exploded with freak–outs. But Narissa? Already J–hooked past Jaylen’s supercar all on pure racing genius.
She passed him.
And not just any pass–she used a pro–level reverse hook technique, something even Jaylen hadn’t mastered yet.
At that moment, Jaylen and the guys behind him were completely stunned. ‘Holy shit–even Jaylen hasn’t mastered that move yet! And the chick we dissed just nailed it?!‘
Thinking back to how they’d acted and what they’d said to Narissa earlier, the guys now felt utterly humiliated.
The outcome? Totally expected.
Narissa’s sports car crossed the finish line first.
The others followed shortly after.
The moment Narissa stepped out of her car, Jaylen and the guys rushed over to her.
Jaylen couldn’t hold back his excitement. “Congrats, Narissa! You just broke the track record!”
“Mhm.” But in response to their hyped–up reactions, Narissa just slightly furrowed her brows and gave a casual reply.
It was too slow.
For her, the speed she’d just hit on the track was way below her usual level.
Guess she was a bit rusty after not racing for so long.
“Narissa, would you consider officially joining our racing team? I’ll even give you the captain’s spot,” Jaylen offered again.
“Yeah, your majesty! That move you just pulled was pro–level!”
“Totally! We were blind earlier, daring to challenge you. If you join us, we’ll make sure you get the captain’s position!”
Besides Jaylen, the other guys were just as pumped.
Not long ago, they were still debating whether Narissa could even join their racing team. But now, they’d gladly accept her as their captain–no complaints whatsoever.
All because none of them could pull off the racing skills she just showed off.
“No for the captain title,” Narissa said with a casual eyebrow raise, responding to their excitement. “But as agreed, I’ll join your team.”
“However,” she paused, “I’m usually pretty busy, so I might not always make it to your races.”
“No problem! Just having you on board is awesome.”
“Yeah! Welcome to the team, your majesty.”
And just like that, Narissa officially connected with Jaylen and the other guys.

She gave a nod.
It was getting late. Even though she hadn’t met up with the contact sent by her superiors or handed over the Blood Ruby because of Bastien, at least she still had the gem with her.
Just in case, after swapping contact info with the guys, Narissa decided to call it a day and left first.
Back at the Everton family, Narissa was pondering how to safely deliver the Blood Ruby out of Sinney, which was under Bastien’s control.
“Stop right there!” Suddenly, a sharp shout snapped her out of her thoughts.
Frowning in annoyance, she looked up, ready to see who dared to block her way.
Right in front of her stood Dario, stern–faced, with a few people guarding the entrance of the villa, clearly here to confront
her.
“You’re back so late. Where have you been?” Before she could speak, Dario demanded in a dark tone.
“I—”
Narissa was about to brush it off with some excuse when the old man cut her off with a roar. “Eight o’clock!
“Don’t you know the Everton family curfew is at 8 PM?
“A proper young lady wandering outside after 8? What, planning to stay out all night? No manners at all–once you’re out, you forget to come home!”
The Everton couple stood nearby, heads bowed, not daring to speak.
The Everton family did have a curfew–rules were rules. As long as Dario was home, everyone had to be back by 8 PM.
Amanda had explained this to Narissa on the flight back home.
Just then, Cressida, dressed in expensive pajamas, decided to stir the pot. “Narissa, were you out fooling around with guys again?”
Worried the old man would scold Narissa, Amanda quickly took the blame. “Dad, don’t be angry. It is our fault.
“We never got around to telling Narissa about the curfew.
“She won’t do it again.
“Narissa, promise grandpa you’ll be back by 8 in the future.”
But Narissa just scoffed, “Curfew in this day and age? How outdated!”
