Chapter 17
As the ladies greeted Amanda with polite but mostly insincere pleasantries, few of them actually meant it.
Still, Amanda smiled. “Oh, I wouldn’t know. Come here, Narissa, let me introduce you.
“This elegant and graceful lady is Mrs. Nora Lane, this wise and gentle one is Mrs. Wendy Solace, and here’s the lively and straightforward Mrs. Irene Kensington, along with the quiet and reserved Mrs. Ashley Blake.”
With Amanda’s introductions and compliments, the four ladies immediately brightened up, their attitudes toward Narissa warming noticeably.
That was the art of conversation.
“By the way, Cressida, Narissa, the kids of these ladies happen to be over there. Come, Mom will take you to meet them. You young folks will have common topics to chat about–might as well mingle a bit.”
Amanda was going all out to help her daughters network with influential peers, hoping they’d have some solid connections. in the future.
But Cressida wasn’t happy. The reason? These people had always looked down on the Everton family.
Now, with the addition of a long–lost sister who had a “questionable” background, they’d probably dismiss the Everton family entirely.
The only reason these ladies even bothered to acknowledge them was because of Dario’s old ties with the Harlow family.
Sure enough, despite Amanda’s patient introductions, aside from the few ladies who gave face out of respect for Dario and the Harlow family, the kids from these four families treated the two sisters with icy indifference.
Cressida felt utterly humiliated–and it was all Narissa’s fault.
Back in the day, even when the Everton family was at its lowest, the heirs of these four families wouldn’t have snubbed her like this, let alone outright ignored her and Narissa like they were today.
Since Amanda had to attend to other guests, she left Cressida to take Narissa and mingle with the young elites.
But Cressida had zero interest in babysitting Narissa.
Just then, a mother–daughter pair walked over.
“Well, well! Look who we have here. The Everton family’s long–lost wild child. Cressida, congrats.
“Congrats on finally finding your sister–while she was scrubbing toilets, no less.”
The speaker was all sarcastic and blunt; anyone with half a brain could tell they were up to no good.
Probably had some beef with Cressida, so they were coming at Narissa too.
Narissa raised an eyebrow coldly, couldn’t be bothered to engage–since they were here to pick on Cressida, not her.
She was about to turn and leave. But then the daughter from that mother–daughter duo stepped right in front of her. “Don’t

go! Let me sec.
“Cressida, your sister really does look a lot like you. Bet your personalities are just as trashy, huh?
“I heard your sister was some rich guy’s side piece before. You wouldn’t be the same, would you-”
“Shanna Harper, shut your mouth!” Cressida snapped.
“Ooooh, someone’s mad. Scary…
“But honestly, the Everton family’s just pathetic. Can’t even raise a proper lady.
“Look at us–classy, well–mannered, dressed to impress. At least our clothes and bags match our status.” Shanna deliberately waved her designer bag in front of Cressida, throwing shade at Narissa.
Then she turned the heat on Narissa. “Oh, Cressida’s sister, this is this year’s limited–edition custom by Joseph West. Only a handful in the whole country. Ever seen one?
“Oh wait. My bad, I totally forgot you were just a cleaner before coming home. Probably can’t afford this, huh?”
By then, Narissa’s parents spotted the chaos from across the room–especially brutal since today was Narissa’s welcoming
party.
Publicly roasted like this? They stormed over for damage control. “Mrs. Harper, we’re all businesspeople here. No need to go this far. Control your daughter.”
“Mrs. Harper, burning bridges isn’t smart. Remember that.”
“What? Scared my daughter’s telling the truth? Don’t you know what your daughter’s really like? Let me enlighten you—” Mrs. Vivienne Harper’s face was sharp, her tone dripping with venom, clearly someone who wouldn’t back down.
And Narissa could pretty much tell–this mother–daughter duo was definitely targeting the Everton family.
It seemed like their family had some serious beef with the Everton family.
Maybe the commotion here got too loud, because now even Dario noticed what was going on, and his expression turned even darker.
‘I knew that rat would publicly disgrace me, he cursed inwardly.
Seeing that Hector and Amanda were left speechless, Vivienne and Shanna grew even more smug,
But then.
Right at that moment.
Narissa suddenly smirked, curling her lips as she spoke up loud and clear. “Oh? Joseph West? You mean that morally bankrupt designer who plagiarized his students‘ work?
“Seems like your intel isn’t that up–to–date. Didn’t you hear? He got sued and thrown in jail just a while ago.”
The moment those words left her mouth, everyone present was stunned.

“What?” Vivienne widened her eyes.
“No way!” Shanna snapped back.
‘Seriously? How rep–obsessed this Miss Everton is! She’d actually go nuclear just to save face–talking crazy like that?!‘ she said inwardly.
But little did she expect that Narissa didn’t even spare her a glance.
Narissa just coolly scanned the crowd of rich girls who seemed eager to watch her make a fool of herself, then casually dropped the bombs.
“That watch of yours is a masterpiece by a famous designer–too bad it’s a fake. The real one’s already been scooped up by a wealthy foreign family.
“And that bag of yours… tsk, it’s real alright, but second–hand, right? If you paid full price for it, oof, that’s rough.
“Oh, and this young lady’s necklace–lovely piece. The ‘Starlight‘ from last year’s auction hosted by Earl of Cinderine, wasn’t
it?”
“How did you know?” The girl wearing the necklace gasped.
The necklace was pretty low–key, so no one had recognized its origins. Yet, the Everton family’s newly returned second daughter would call it out?!
