Chapter 38

Jaylen clenched his fists as he listened to Stuart and the others analyzed what had just happened. He couldn’t help but mutter, “That was more than impressive. She used at least five racing techniques in that last maneuver.”

Gilbert happened to overhear. He exclaimed, “What? Five? That’s impossible. She’s only got two hands and two feet–how could she pull off five stunts at once?”

Jaylen replied, “I’m serious. Besides the two you already mentioned, she also pulled off a high–speed drift, a pre–corner spiral boost, and a snake–follow move.”

Gilbert blinked in confusion. “The first few can see, but why the snake–follow? Manny’s car was already behind her.”

Jaylen explained, “Didn’t you see that red car kept trying to overtake the white one? If she hadn’t made those slick moves, he probably would’ve rammed her off the track by how.”

After all, winning didn’t always mean passing your opponent–a racer could knock the other off the track and still win.

It was a dirty tactic, sure, but as long as it looked accidental, no one could hold them accountable. That was the dark side of the racing world.

While Jaylen was breaking it down for his buddies, things on the track were heating up fast. The two cars were now in a dead–on chase.

Several times, Manny used his skill to pass Narissa, and just as Jaylen had predicted, he was trying to push her off the track.

Every single time, Narissa dodged him at the last second. As they neared the final lap, she gunned the engine and threw caution to the wind.

That provoked Manny. He thought, ‘I won’t lose to a girl.’

The entire crowd was holding its breath, afraid to even blink, scared they’d miss something.

But Stuart looked completely relaxed. “Chill, guys. That woman’s already a whole lap behind Mr. Conor. As long as he finishes this lap, he wins.”

A lap behind. That comment instantly doused the tension among Jaylen’s group. Right–they’d forgotten that.

No matter how fast Narissa went now, it was pointless. She’d already lost.

Some in the crowd looked disappointed, while others were clearly thrilled. The two camps couldn’t be more different.

Stuart even had someone bring over a knife, ready to chop off Jaylen’s or Narissa’s hand.

“It’s over!” someone groaned, watching the finish line get closer and closer.

But Narissa wasn’t done yet. She suddenly started weaving left and right, blocking Manny’s car from behind.

Forced into a risky move, Manny decided to go all in and try to shove Narissa’s car off the track.

But Narissa was ready for it. Just as the red car approached, she gave a tiny whip in her car’s rear, hitting the front of Manny’s vehicle and throwing it off balance. The red car swerved off course.

Chapter 38

“Shit!” Manny yelled.

Manny thought he was about to crash and get seriously hurt, but at the last second, Narissa spun her car sharply and rammed the rear of his, forcing it back onto the track.

Then Narissa floored it, surging toward the finish line in flawless form.

Soon, her car crossed the line. The whole place went silent.

Stuart rubbed his eyes hard, but the result didn’t change. He fell back onto the ground in disbelief. “No… way…”
