Chapter 42

Narissa was pulled from her thoughts by Gilbert waving his car keys. “Narissa, will you let me take you to your home?”

Seeing this, the others quickly protested, pulling out their keys and scrambling to be the one to take Narissa home, Jaylen eventually cut through the clamor. “I’ll take her.”

To everyone’s surprise, Narissa blinked her eyes and said, “Thanks, but no. I sneaked out. If any of you drive me back, I’ll get

in trouble.”

Everyone was dumbfounded. “Narissa, you had to sneak out? Why?” Gilbert asked.

Someone chimed in, “I know. Rumor has it that the Evertons have a curfew. Mr. Everton’s rule.”

Gilbert looked genuinely shocked. “Then how did you manage to sneak out with all those people around?”

His question sparked a realization. Since Narissa’s return, the Everton estate had been surrounded by reporters and paparazzi hungry for any juicy stories.

They were relentless, a 24/7 surveillance operation. How had a living person like Narissa slipped past them unnoticed?

Under their confused stares, Narissa stated flatly, “I climbed the wall.”

“Cl–climbed the wall?” Gilbert sputtered. “What about the reporters?”

“That part.” Narissa paused, as if recalling the detail, then delivered the fact with utter nonchalance. “Knocked them all out.”

The sheer calm in her voice hit them like a physical blow. “Jesus. What graceful lady talks about scaling walls and knocking people out like she’s commenting on the weather?

‘Is she even human? Or rather, she’s definitely not an ordinary person. The thought echoed unanimously in their minds.

“Only you, my lady,” Gilbert breathed, his fanboy adoration shining through. “Master of both arts and arms.”

Jaylen chuckled appreciatively. “Well, Narissa. Perhaps you could teach us some of those moves sometime.”

“Yeah,” Gilbert quipped, slipping back into his role as the joker. “So we can sneak out for some fun too, right?”

“I gotta go,” Narissa said, cutting the conversation short. With a brief farewell, she turned and walked away.

Jaylen and the others stared at the direction where she disappeared, unable to come back to their senses for a long time.

At that moment, they all shared the same thought. Whoever called Narissa Everton useless is a fool. And if we hear it again, they’ll answer us

Narissa didn’t hail a cab. She walked home. Her reason was simple: she’d sensed the tail the moment she left the lively area.

Leading her pursuer down a deserted side street, she stopped abruptly, head tilting slightly. “Show yourself,” she said.

She’d known someone was following her, but she hadn’t exposed it until she came to this deserted place.

A figure emerged from the shadows–Nelson. “How did you spot me?” he demanded. He’d anticipated her route, setting up this ambush.

To his surprise, Narissa had detected him. ‘Well, it doesn’t matter. At least this spot is perfect. No interruptions, he thought.

“What? Do those hands feel like excess baggage to you? Need me to lighten the load?” Narissa took out her military–grade combat knife as she spoke.

Nelson hastily threw his hands up in surrender. “Hey, take it easy! No need for that, Ms. Everton. I’m just here with a message.”

“Oh?” Narissa remained calm, not the least bit panicked about being ambushed.

Her composure made Nelson respect her a bit more. “Mr. Robles wants to see you,” Nelson said.

“See me?” Narissa arched an eyebrow. “Are you sure it’s not a kidnapping?” Narissa couldn’t help but be sarcastic, considering Nelson’s sneaky ways.

Nelson gave a nervous chuckle. “It’s not like that.”

“Then what are the guys behind you planning?” Narissa crossed her arms, her gaze piercing the darkness beyond Nelson. “Don’t tell me they’re out for a stroll.”
