Just then, Penelope rushed in, frantically kneeling to help Gabriel up.[]
But Penelope’s parents burst in and dragged her away:[]
“You’re embarrassing yourself! If you want a relationship, find someone decent. Our family isn’t beneath anyone–why obsess over a man who doesn’t even
value you?”
Gabriel unsteadily got to his feet, looking at Reed: “You’ve been in love with Mila all along, haven’t you?“[]
Reed answered frankly: “Yes. Mila once saved my life.“[]
In his sophomore year of college, Reed had been in a car accident.[]
Back then, Mila, a sixteen–year–old with a backpack on her way to take her entrance exams, risked her life to pull him from an overturned vehicle.[]
She pressed on his glass–pierced chest until the ambulance arrived before leaving.
