Chapter 2
That night, as I walked past the study after my shower, I noticed a soft white light filtering through the door crack.[]
Penelope Shaw, Gabriel’s childhood sweetheart, sat on his desk, toying with his tie.]
“Gabriel, are you really planning to let your brother sleep with Mila?” [
“I remember how dramatically you pursued her. It hasn’t been that long, and you’re already willing to hand her over?”
Gabriel gripped Penelope’s waist and leaned in to kiss her fiery red lips.[]
“You can’t catch a wolf without using a lamb as bait!“[]
“I’ve always been inferior to my brother in every way. If i don’t beat him to having a child and giving Grandfather his great–grandson, the old man will never look at me with favor!“]
“Besides, I’ve already had a taste of Mila, and she’s nothing special in bed. Totally vanilla!“[]
You’re way hotter–you know how to get wild between the sheets!“]]
As he spoke, they erupted in lustful laughter before falling into each other’s arms, their passionate kisses quickly escalating into a hot, tangled mess of wandering hands and breathless moans.]]
I clenched my fists in anger but knew confronting him now would be futile.
The West family was among LA’s elite, while I was just a poor junior in college.
So Gabriel could crush me as easily as an ant.[]
My previous life had proven this–I had tried countless times to escape after being locked away, even called the police, but was always returned to him.]
So I slipped quietly back to my bedroom.]]
The fact that Gabriel was intimate with Penelope in his study while knowing I was showering proved he never truly considered me his girlfriend.[]
The
memory of being burned alive in my previous life seemed to sear through my body again.
Hatred bubbled uncontrollably in my chest.
I dried my hair and lay on my side, clutching the blanket with determination blazing in my eyes.
Much later, I heard stumbling footsteps in the hallway.
“Whoa, Reed, wrong way–it’s this one!”
Gabriel supported Reed as he pushed open my bedroom door.
Seeing my form curled under the blanket and the empty milk glass on the nightstand, Gabriel’s eyes flashed with triumph.]
“Reed, this is your room. Get some rest!”
The bed dipped beside me as a fresh citrus scent wafted over.
Gabriel–backed out, thoughtfully closing the door behind him.
But the moment he left, Reed suddenly sat upright, staring straight at the ceiling.
Hadn’t he drunk all the drugged porridge? Why wasn’t he affected?
Thinking this, I pretended to be awakened by the noise and sat up, rubbing my sleepy eyes:[]
Gabriel, why are you coming to bed so late?”
Reed turned to look at me, and in the moonlight streaming through the window, I could see his expression clearly–cold, hard, and complex.[]
I immediately moved closer and hugged him: “Gabriel, I was so scared without you. I was even having nightmares!“[]
The man I embraced tensed but didn’t push me away.[]
I carefully observed his face, confirming he was truly unaffected.[]
So was he willing to go along with Gabriel’s plan because he already loved me?[]
Why else would he have chosen to die with me in my previous life?[]
Whatever the truth, I needed to hold onto this love to save myself.[]
With this in mind, I leaned in to kiss the corner of his mouth: “Gabriel, I want you…“]
Reed’s eyes flickered as he gripped my chin, forcing me to look into his eyes. His voice was deep: “What did you call me?”
I widened my almond eyes in feigned confusion: “Ga…Gabriel?“]
Reed frowned, clearly unsatisfied. “Call me ‘baby‘ instead!” he demanded with a husky voice.]
I blinked in confusion.
Reed leaned in and bit my lip. With a seductive tone, he said: “Be good. Call me ‘baby,‘ and I’ll give you what you want.”
I blushed and obediently whispered: “Baby…“]]
With that, passion ignited like wildfire.]
Reed kissed me fiercely, his hands gripping my waist as he pushed me down onto the bed.[]
His kisses were urgent and fierce as he tore open my nightgown buttons, his hands tracing up my soft waist.]
