Chapter 12
In the VIP suite of the hospital, the sharp scent of antiseptic was softened by the lilles arranged beside the bed
Grayson sat at the edge of the bed, holding a steaming of bone broth. The spoon tapped gently against the ceramic, emitting a crisp sound.
“Come on, another sip,” he coaxed, bringing the spoon to Claire’s lips. His voice was tender. “I simmered this for four hours and skimmed off all the
fat
A faint blush colored Claire’s pale checks as she sipped obediently, her lashes casting a delicate shadow under the soft lights. “Grayson, you staying here with me.. won’t Savannah be upset?!!
*She won’t mind,” Grayson Interrupted her, his tone so certain it sounded like he was trying to convince himself. “Savannah’s always been the understanding one.”
But when he put the bowl down, the spoon struck the edge of the table with a sharp ding The sound stabbed through his temples like a splinter.
It had been three days.
Three days without a single word from
He pulled out his phone. The lock screen top–Savannah’s serene, sleeping face stared back at him.
5:03 PM: Baby, I’ll be home a little late.
5:03
10:47 PM: Still mad?
Next day 9:15 AM: Say, please pick up
The last message was from that morning. Alone green bubble bang isolated at the top of the chat thread.
“I need to make a call.” He stood abruptly, the motion tipping over the small stool beside him.
At the far end of the hallway, he dialed her number for the third time.
The automated message played again, repeating in English and Mandarin: The number you are trying to reach is currently unavailable.
Its flat tone echoed eerily down the emergency stairwell.
He switched to another number and called his assistent
H
“Daniel, I need you to go to the estate,” he said after a pause, deliberately avoiding mentioning Savannah. Just… check the security logs.”
Roughly thirty minutes later, Daniel called back
“Sir, everything looks normal, but…
But what?”
“The kitchen waste disposal hasn’t been activated in three days. And according to the Smart Home Controller, the last usage was the day you left.”
Grayson’s breath hitched.
Savannah had a phobia of ditt. She’d never leave food waste overnight.
Beep. The fingerprint lock clicked open. The estate light above the foyer flicked on as the stepped inside
But the house remained completely dark
No lights left on. No welcoming hum from the automation. Just a silence so profound it echoed in his ears.
“Say?” His voice bounced off the high ceiling of the living room.
The faint rose scent that used to linger in the air had vanished. In its place was a sterile, unfamiliar emptiness.
Grayson stood at the threshold of the master bedroom, heart racing
He slowly pushed the door open–and froze.
The closet doors were flung wide open. Not a single piece of her clothing remained. Her favorite perfumes and jewelry cases were gone from the vanity.
Even the framed photo that used to sit on the nightstand was missing.

Now there was only the empty frame, facing the wall.
His heart sank
He rushed to the study, yanked open the drawers. Her passport. Her ID. Bank cards. Every trace of her–gone.
Except for two things left on the coffee table.
A necklace. And a thick stack of old letters.
Grayson’s fingers trembled as he picked up the necklace.
He’d given it to her on her eighteenth birthday. She’d worn it every day since.
Now, it sat here. Alone.
And Savannah was nowhere to be found.
