Chapter 5
Thankfully, the search and rescue team arrived.[]
I tried to stay strong, but nearly slipped. A strong arm caught me.[]
“Thank you, I’m fine.”
In the harsh white glare of the search lights, my eyes were swollen from crying.[]
The man beside me spoke. “Aurora, don’t worry. Based on the footprints, your son is somewhere nearby.“[]
“We’ll find him soon.“]
His reassuring words steadied me, though I failed to notice one thing–he had called me
“Found him!”
The man’s voice came from nearby.
“The child fell into this cave and passed out!“]]
“Quick, get the rope!”
The man quickly secured the harness and slowly descended.
My heart was in my throat as I stared intently at the crevice.
by name.
Soon, with violent tugging on the rope, the man emerged from the crevice carrying a small child.[]
I covered my mouth, swallowing a sob, reaching out to help.
But the man sternly stopped me.[]
“Don’t touch him yet. It looks like his leg is broken, and he’s bleeding quite badly.”
These words hit me like a thunderbolt, nearly knocking me unconscious.[]
I had to force myself to stay focused as I watched him administer first aid.[]
The man laid River flat on the ground and opened his emergency kit.[]
In the pale light, I could barely bring myself to look at the large bloodstains on my son’s tiny leg, but I forced myself to keep my eyes
open.
After he finished the basic bandaging, I finally regained some composure and remembered something crucial: “River has Rh–negative blood.”
“Let’s go quickly! We’ll talk on the way back to the city.“]
I nodded, staying close to River’s stretcher.
I stumbled occasionally, but each time I felt myself falling, something would steady me.]

The hospital I contacted quickly responded that San Francisco was short on Rh–negative blood and would need to source it from nearby cities. They asked if any of the child’s relatives shared the same blood type.[]
Zane does!
The thought flashed through my mind, and without hesitation, I called him immediately.
But all I got was a busy signal that went on and on.[]
My heart gradually sank to the depths…]
Fortunately, once the boat reached shore, River was quickly transferred to an ambulance.
The rescue team member stayed by my side all the way to the nearest hospital.[]
The doctor quickly made an assessment: “It appears to be an accidental leg fracture. The patient has lost a lot of blood and needs immediate surgery. However, this blood type is rare, and it will take some time to get it here. Does the child have any family members with the same blood type?“]
I immediately replied, “Yes! His father has the same type. I’ll find him right away. Please help us get the blood as quickly as possible!“]
The lean man beside me grabbed my trembling arm. “I’ll find him. You stay with your child.“[]
But thinking of Scarlett, I shook
my
head.
“I have to go myself. Could you please watch over my son?“]
River was still in the operating room–how could I bear to leave?]
But I had no choice.
e.“]
The man nodded solemnly. “I’ll take good care of him. Here’s my contact information in case you need to reach me.’
He took my phone and entered his details. I nodded, grabbed my phone, and bolted out the door.
Outside the hospital, the sky was overcast, brewing a heavy storm.]
I quickly hailed a taxi.]
“Sacred Heart Hospital, fast!”
It was a hospital invested in by the Blackwell family, known for its cardiac department.[]
Zane would definitely have taken her there![]
As I arrived, dark clouds churned overhead with a distant rumble of thunder.[]
I kept calling Zane while frantically searching around.[]
“Ms. Parker?“]
“Mrs. Blackwell?” Zane’s assistant spotted me and came running over.[]
“Where is Zane?!”

I’ll–I’ll take you to him right away.“[]
Outside the 8th floor VIP ward, I saw an equally haggard–looking Scarlett.]
Seeing me, she first looked surprised, then smoothed her hair and stood up.[]
With an icy expression, I demanded, “Where’s Zane?“]
