Eleanor was completely flustered, shaking her head but unable to offer any explanation.
Seeing this, I sneered inwardly and said, “Christopher, on the day you came to my house to propose to Eleanor, I had already placed this congratulatory message in my bedroom. If Eleanor truly had no ulterior motives, she never would have seen it.”
With each word I spoke, Eleanor grew more panicked.
I continued, “However, to win Sir White’s favor, Eleanor snuck into my room that very night. She not only copied my painting and greeting card but also stole this congratulatory message.”
Eleanor continued her desperate defense, her eyes red and voice hoarse: “Sir White, I must have misremembered. I did come up with this congratulatory message five Christmases ago, but I never intended to send it out. Natalie must have seen it by accident and plagiarized my message to give to you as a gift.”
Eleanor seemed to think her explanation was flawless. She looked at me firmly, straightening her back as she said, “Natalie, you claim I plagiarized your congratulatory message. Do you have proof?”
Before I could respond to her words, a lady at the party, Kennedy Turner, suddenly spoke up: “I can testify to that.”

Instantly, everyone at the party turned their attention to Kennedy.
She walked over calmly and announced loudly, “Sir White, I saw this congratulatory message eight Christmases ago. Not just me -your late wife saw it too.”
This was indeed something from long ago, so long that even I had nearly forgotten.
I was only fifteen at the time.
After Miles passed away, Athena’s friends came to the house to visit her.
As a junior member of the family, and since it happened to be Kennedy’s birthday, Athena asked me to give her a small gift.
So I came up with those congratulatory words.
After hearing them, they were delighted but also told me that some of the metaphors and wording in the message weren’t quite appropriate for middle–aged women like themselves–it would be more suitable for congratulating elderly elders.
I took their advice to heart, so when Julian’s birthday came around, I rewrote the congratulatory message and included it in the gift the Morris family prepared for Julian.
Upon hearing Kennedy’s words, everyone was shocked.

Eleanor never expected such a thing to come to light. Unable to argue further, she kept repeating, “Impossible, how is this possible?”
Seeing her continued denial, Kennedy sneered, “Everyone in Washington knows that Mr. Miles Morris only adopted you seven Christmases ago. So how could Natalie have plagiarized your congratulatory message eight Christmases ago? You’re absolutely shameless. If you want to keep arguing, I’ll go get Mrs. Athena Morris right now.”
Eleanor could no longer find any excuse to defend herself. Christopher was equally stunned.
Whether in my past life or this one, Eleanor had always been pure and kind in his heart.
In my previous life, he knew Eleanor loved him, but due to pressure from the Morris family, he could only marry me while keeping Eleanor hidden in his heart.
Now that he could finally marry Eleanor, he never expected that she had been deceiving him all along.
How ironic!
Christopher’s eyes turned red with anger as he demanded, “Have you been lying to me this whole time? You stole the congratulatory message and copied the painting, didn’t you?”

Afraid of being abandoned by him, Eleanor could only explain, “Christopher, I did all of this for you. My status and position can’t compare to Natalie’s, yet you were still willing to marry me. I just wanted others to respect me so no one would mock
I did plagiarize, but my love for you is real.”

Her voice was hoarse, tears streaming down continuously.
Christopher was somewhat moved and sighed, “But you shouldn’t have done these things.”
Now, no matter what he said, Eleanor only dared to agree: “I won’t do this again. I promise I’ll change.”
Hearing her words, Christopher turned to look at me: “Natalie, she already knows she was wrong. Can’t you just let this matter go?”
