A sharp jolt of pain shot through her ankle, becoming increasingly unbearable.
She quickly pulled out her phone and called emergency services.
After being taken to the hospital, the doctor informed her that her ankle was injured and she’d need someone to help her complete the admission paperwork.
“My family isn’t here,” Sarah said helplessly, the frustration creeping into her expression.
“Then you’ll need a friend or coworker,” the doctor replied. “The process is a bit complicated–you won’t be able to manage it alone.”
“Okay. I’ll see who I can reach.”
After the doctor left, Sarah pulled out her phone.
She instinctively opened Shane’s contact first.
Three years in Astrovia–she’d poured all her time into this one man. She hadn’t made many friends.
But she didn’t want to see Shane right now, so there was no way she’d call him.
Other than him, the only person who might be able to help was Grayson.
But she wasn’t friends with him. They barely knew each other.
It didn’t seem right to ask him for help.
Sarah hesitated, unsure what to do.
She was just about to consider reaching out to a coworker when a familiar voice spoke from nearby.
“Ms. Sarah?”
She looked up and saw Grayson’s assistant, Paul.
They’d met a few times before, but that was the extent of their connection.
“What are you doing here?” she asked.
“I injured my hand a few days ago–just here to get the bandage changed.”
Sarah suddenly remembered–when she’d come to the hospital recently for stomach issues, she’d bumped into Grayson. He’d mentioned that his assistant had been hurt and that he was there to check on him.
This was a perfect opportunity. She didn’t want to let it slip away.
“Paul, could you help me with something?”
She asked tentatively.
“Sure.” Paul looked down at her. “Did you hurt your foot?”
“Yeah. I was going out to buy groceries and had a bad fall. The doctor says I need to be admitted, but there’s no one to help me with the paperwork…”
She trailed off without finishing.

Chapter 18 One Egg
But Paul understood right away.
Unfortunately, he’d just had his dressing changed–and he couldn’t be of much use.
“Ms. Sarah, wait here for a second.”
Before she could react, Paul had already turned and was walking down the hallway.
“Where are you going?” she called after him, watching his retreating figure in confusion.
But he didn’t look back.
As he disappeared into the distance, Sarah felt her heart sink to the bottom.
