He’s My One True Love 4

He's My One True Love 4

Shane paused for a moment, his charming fox-like eyes casually sweeping over Sarah’s retreating figure.
Back straight, footsteps decisive—within seconds, she was gone from sight.
She was always like that. Cold and stubborn.
Thunder suddenly rumbled outside. Shane frowned slightly and was just about to follow after her when Nora’s soft, fragile voice stopped him.
“It’s going to rain. I’m all alone… I’m scared…”
In the end, Shane didn’t go after her.
Because he knew—Sarah had nowhere to go.
In Astrovia, she had no friends, no family. Just him.
Where could she possibly run off to?
She’d come back soon enough.
And Sarah really didn’t have anywhere else to go. The moment she stepped outside, the skies opened up with a downpour.
She had rushed out too fast—hadn’t even brought her phone. All she could do was hide under the awning of a convenience store, soaked and shivering.
As she stared into the foggy curtain of rain, a deep ache welled in her chest.
Three years ago, when she’d first arrived in Astrovia, it had been during the rainy season.
Once, they were caught in a storm without an umbrella. They were only a few steps from the car, yet Shane had taken off his tailored suit and shielded her from the rain.
When they got inside, she’d fussed over the expensive suit, now ruined. But Shane had only smiled and said, “It’s just a suit. You’re the only thing that matters.”
In the dim car, his eyes had glowed like stars.
Now, he wouldn’t even bring her an umbrella.
Sarah gave a bitter smile.
The glass door of the convenience store suddenly swung open. Warm air spilled out, along with the clerk’s cheerful “Come again soon.”
Out stepped a man—broad-shouldered, slim-waisted.
“Sarah, here’s an umbrella,” came a cool, deep voice.
She turned around and met a pair of narrow, icy phoenix eyes.
A face as handsome as Shane’s.
She blinked in surprise before finally placing the name.
“Grayson?”
Grayson Fox and Shane were business rivals—but he had ties with the Saunders family. She’d run into him a few times, though her attitude had always been frosty because of Shane.
Now, she took the umbrella with mixed feelings, hesitated, then said, “Can I… borrow some money too?”
Her cheeks flushed in embarrassment. Even her ears turned red.
Grayson gave her a sweeping glance. “Got into a fight with Shane?”
“Mm.”
“Keep it,” he said with a snort, pulling out a wad of cash and handing it to her. “Leaving your girlfriend out in weather like this—he really loves you?”
He didn’t wait for her reply, just turned and strode off into the rain.
Sarah’s lips tightened, fingers subconsciously curling around the cash.
Even strangers could see it.
And she… had taken three years to realize.
She used the money to find a dingy motel—no name, no star rating, no comfort. It was enough to get through the night.
The next morning, timing her return with Shane’s work hours, she came home to change before heading to the office.
Even though she was just Shane’s secretary, she truly loved her job.
But the moment she stepped inside, a shrill, commanding female voice rang out: “Grace, toss this pile too.”
Sarah stopped and saw the living room covered in a mess of her belongings.
Among them, a puzzle—custom-made, one she’d spent half a year completing for Shane’s birthday.
She hadn’t had the chance to seal it up yet, and now it was scattered across the floor.
Looking up, she saw Nora on the second floor, directing the housekeeper like she owned the place.
When Nora spotted her, she curled her lips into a smug smile from behind the railing, then turned and entered Sarah’s bedroom.
Sarah followed her upstairs—and found Shane there too.
When he saw her, a flicker of unease passed through his eyes, but he still casually slung an arm around her shoulders. “Where’d you disappear to last night? Had Shane worried sick.”
Worried?
Sarah pressed her lips together.
She’d stayed at a motel right near the house. If he’d really cared, she wouldn’t have been hard to find.
“Why are my things being moved?” she asked.
She looked at the living room—many of her belongings had been damaged.
Shane’s tone was light, his eyes indifferent. “Nora said the shadows from the tree outside the guest room window were creeping her out. She wanted to switch rooms.”
So that gave them the right to move her things without asking?
All because of some tree shadows?
Sarah’s lips pressed tighter. She looked at Nora’s smug face and felt a deep, weary exhaustion in her chest.
Without a word, she nodded, watching Nora shut the bedroom door in her face.
The room she had lived in for three years—claimed by someone else.
Just like Shane.
Maybe it was time to return what never belonged to her in the first place.
Fingers tightening at her sides, Sarah lowered her gaze and headed back downstairs.
Shane followed.
Seeing her expression, he raised an eyebrow and gave a half-smile. “Sarah, are you mad? Let Nora take the room. You can stay with me—how about it?”
Sarah stared at him quietly.
He still wore that casual, generous smile, as if what he was offering was a privilege.
So, in his mind, letting her stay with him was some kind of favor—and she should be grateful for it?
Looking at the shattered puzzle on the floor, she replied evenly, “No need. I’ll take the guest room.”
Fine. The house was his. He could assign the rooms however he liked.
She’d be leaving soon anyway. Back home, she could pick any room she wanted.
Shane chuckled, teasing, “Shy, are we?”
He pulled her into his arms, voice soft and amused. “Girls are always a little more sensitive.”
With that, he turned to leave.
As he passed the broken pieces of the puzzle, he paused. “Shame about the puzzle. Don’t worry, I’ll help you make another one.”
Sarah didn’t look up. Her voice was calm. “No need. It wasn’t anything important. Just throw it away.”
It was just a puzzle. She didn’t want it anymore.
Just like her feelings for Shane.
She didn’t want those either.
Surprised by her maturity, Shane glanced back at her.
“Our Sarah’s all grown up?” he said with a smile. He leaned in to kiss her forehead. “Three years ago, you would’ve thrown a fit.”
Sarah shook her head and subtly dodged the touch.
Not anymore. She’d never throw a fit again.
After Shane left, Sarah helped the housekeeper tidy up the guest room.
Grace couldn’t help but speak up. “Ms. Sarah, that puzzle took you forever. You said it was a surprise for Mr. Shane’s birthday. Told me not to say a word—and now it’s just gone…”
Sarah smiled. “Let’s pretend it never existed.”
Just like her feelings for Shane. Let’s pretend those never existed either.
While she was organizing her things, her phone suddenly lit up with several messages.
It was a coworker she was close with at the office:
“Sarah, you need to get to the company. Right now!”
