He’s My One True Love 6

He's My One True Love 6

Shane chuckled lightly, his fingers lazily pinching Sarah’s porcelain cheek.
His voice carried an easy tease, lashes long and dark like raven feathers. “Then I’ll like you even more from now on.”
Sarah curved her lips slightly, tilting her head just enough to let his hand fall away.
His fingers brushed past her soft hair, catching nothing.
The smile on his face stiffened for a split second. His voice was still gentle, almost affectionate—but there was a faint chill beneath it. “Sarah, you’re still upset, aren’t you?”
She was.
Even though she had no more expectations left in her heart, the emptiness still chilled her to the bone.
She didn’t want to stay here—not even for another second.
“Not at all.” Sarah lowered her gaze. “This is an office. It wouldn’t look good if anyone saw.”
She took a step back, her eyes calm and unreadable no matter how long Shane studied her.
The man before her watched quietly.
A strange, unshakable feeling crept into his chest.
“Feeling shy?” Shane’s eyes darkened slightly, his lips curling into a smirk. “You weren’t this shy before.”
Sarah’s eyelashes fluttered slightly.
She remembered that day.
Nora had just come back, and she’d felt so lost in the office. She’d cried and begged for a kiss.
Shane had pushed her away.
Back then, his tone was noble and aloof, a cold smile on his face. “Sarah, this is the office.”
She let out a bitter laugh, snapping out of the memory. “I still have a report to finish. I’ll get back to it.”
Before Shane could respond, her heels were already clicking down the hallway.
He watched her leave, the light in his eyes slowly dimming.
There was something… off. He just couldn’t place it.
When Sarah returned to her desk, she heard the usual office chatter.
“Ms. Nora, you’re amazing! That report was so tough, and you finished it so fast!”
“Well, if she didn’t have the skills, how could she land that position? Mr. Shane always values talent.”
“Ms. Nora, can I ask you something?”
“Also, have you noticed the way the boss looks at her…? It’s different.”
Nora lowered her head with a modest smile. “Don’t say that.”
But the blush on her face betrayed her thoughts.
She stood in the center, glowing under everyone’s praise.
Clearly, people respected this new “supervisor.”
And Sarah knew exactly why.
Nora was the first woman Shane had ever openly asked everyone to “look after.”
No one dared offend her.
Sarah thought back to her own start at the company—long nights grinding through projects, throwing up from all the alcohol during business deals. These same coworkers had watched from the sidelines without lifting a finger.
Being friendly was one thing. But knowing where loyalties lay—that was something else entirely.
Back at her desk, that familiar wave of coldness washed over Sarah again.
She headed to the restroom—and found Nora standing before the mirror, applying lipstick.
She wore a crisp white dress, eerily similar in design and material to the one Sarah had on.
Sarah’s lips tightened. She said nothing.
That dress had been a gift from Shane, for their anniversary. But now, it might as well go in the trash.
“Sarah,” Nora said, turning with a smile. “I heard this supervisor position was originally meant for you. But Shane said I was the best fit. You’re not mad, right?”
Once upon a time, Sarah might have politely brushed it off. But things had gone too far now. She didn’t have the energy to play nice anymore.
“I don’t really care,” Sarah replied.
“Don’t care?” Nora laughed softly. “You’ve been pulling all-nighters and managing projects nonstop—wasn’t it all for the promotion? How can you say you don’t care?”
Sarah’s voice was calm, frank. “There’s no need to keep up appearances—just the two of us here.”
“Are you misunderstanding—”
“Every step you’ve taken has been precise,” Sarah cut her off. “Just like your lipstick. You know exactly which shade suits which occasion. I’m guessing you go bolder when it’s just you and Shane?”
“Sarah, don’t say things like that. Mr. Shane and I are just—”
Sarah gestured toward the office space. “That whole ‘just friends’ thing? I doubt even the others believe it anymore.”
Nora’s surprised expression twitched, a flash of challenge flickering in her eyes.
But Sarah didn’t bother analyzing it. Without another word, she turned and walked away.
The entire day, Sarah couldn’t bring herself to focus on work.
By evening, the report still wasn’t done.
A rumble of thunder cracked across the sky.
After dinner, she stood beneath the awning and stared at the downpour.
For a moment, she was tempted to quit on the spot.
She didn’t want to spend another day—no, not even another hour—with those two.
The events of the day replayed in her mind, one after the other, until her nose suddenly stung and her eyes prickled.
“You forgot your umbrella again?”
A deep voice fell into her ears.
She instinctively turned toward it—and paused.
“Grayson?”
She looked at the man before her, his sharp phoenix eyes slightly softened under the warm streetlamp.
Still tall, still imposing. But with less of that cold, untouchable aura.
Unlike Shane’s refined, flirtatious charm, Grayson’s face was all hard lines and intensity. Those cold eyes rarely invited a second glance.
He was handsome—but his presence made people too nervous to say it out loud.
“What are you doing here?” Sarah asked. “Thank you, by the way, for last time. Isn’t your company based in Capital City?”
“Just passing through. Business trip,” he replied coolly. “Rain like this—Shane didn’t come pick you up?”
He was probably off reminiscing with Nora.
How could he notice her?
Sarah lowered her eyes. “I can go home on my own. I don’t need him.”
“You two still haven’t made up?” Grayson scoffed lightly. “Men in my family don’t let their wives get caught in the rain over and over again.”
“I’m not his wife,” Sarah said with a bitter smile.
“But I am getting married soon,” she added casually. “Just not to him.”
With that, she turned, intending to walk back to her building the long way around.
The rain came down harder, the wind slicing through the air with a chill that made her shiver.
It was late autumn. The cold cut straight through her.
A second later, a hand reached out and grabbed her wrist.
When she looked up, she saw Grayson’s sharp jawline right in front of her.
It was the closest she’d ever been to him.
“This weather’ll get you sick,” he said.
Sarah stared up at him, startled.
This man—he didn’t seem anything like the person the rumors painted him to be.
