He’s My One True Love 7

He's My One True Love 7

The two of them walked side by side toward the building, neither saying a word.
The pressure coming off the man was palpable, and Sarah could feel it weighing on her.
All she wanted was to get back to the office as quickly as possible.
When they reached the building entrance, she gave a faint smile. “Thanks.”
“It’s been raining a lot lately. Best to keep an umbrella on you,” Grayson said as he held the handle, his voice steady and indifferent. “You won’t always get this lucky.”
The chill in his gaze was unmistakable—his commanding presence wrapped around her like a current.
She understood the implication in his words.
He meant: not every time would she bump into someone kind.
Before she could respond, Grayson had already turned and walked back into the rain.
His tall frame quickly faded into the hazy night. Only then did Sarah lower her eyes and check her phone.
8:30 p.m.
She had to finish the proposal tonight—there was no way around it. Shane expected it by tomorrow afternoon.
When she returned to the office, most people had gone home.
Only one desk lamp remained on—the one in the supervisor’s office.
Through the frosted glass, she could make out two silhouettes.
As expected.
Shane and Nora, catching up like old lovers.
“Shane, thank you for the coffee. It really warmed me up,” Nora’s soft, sweet voice drifted out, her tone laced with the kind of sweetness that would melt any man.
It was the kind of smile Sarah could never replicate.
“Sorry for making you stay late your first day. Work is important, but so is your health,” Shane said, picking up his coat. “It’s late autumn now. You’ve got to dress warmer—don’t get sick.”
“Thank you, Shane. You’re so kind.”
Nora’s gentleness sliced right through Sarah’s heart.
But there was no more pain left.
She used to think Shane’s warmth was reserved for her—that his tenderness came from love.
But it turned out, his kindness wasn’t exclusive. He could give the same care, the same warmth, to another woman just as easily.
A crush was just that—a crush. When Shane draped his coat over Nora’s shoulders, even the look in his eyes was softer than usual.
Sarah couldn’t bear to watch any longer. She turned and walked to her desk.
She hadn’t written a single word of the proposal all day.
Opening the document, her fingers moved almost on their own.
When she came back to herself, she stared bitterly at the words at the top of the page. Resignation Letter.
So that was what her subconscious wanted—to pull her out of this mess once and for all.
She reached for the delete key and slowly erased it… only to type it again.
Over and over, she went back and forth, caught in the same quiet storm.
“Sarah? You’re still here?”
A familiar voice interrupted her.
“I’m still working on the proposal,” she answered instinctively, quickly closing the document.
By the time Shane reached her, her screen had already gone dark.
He raised a brow, lips curled faintly. “Writing a proposal on a black screen?”
Sarah was speechless.
She always lost her composure in front of Shane. But this time, her panic wasn’t because of love—it was just surprise.
Seeing her fall silent, Shane lowered his gaze and noticed her thin clothing.
Without thinking, he reached out and touched her shoulder. “Why are you dressed so lightly? It’s cold out, and it’s been raining all day.”
Sarah leaned back slightly, his hand missing her completely.
Unbothered, Shane took off his coat and draped it over her legs.
She was wearing a white dress today. Her legs were, admittedly, a little cold.
But this was the same coat he’d just placed on Nora’s shoulders…
The moment the fabric touched her, she instinctively stood up.
The jacket slid to the floor.
“Sarah, what’s wrong?” Shane asked, his smile still gentle, though his eyes now held confusion.
“I’m fine,” Sarah said, shaking her head. “I’m not really cold.”
“But I remember how much you hate the cold. Every winter, you’d always ask me to cover you up.”
Yes.
He never offered—not at first. It took several tearful arguments before he started giving in.
And then, every winter after that, when she wore too little, he’d always put a jacket around her shoulders.
But right now, all she could think about was the way he’d just done the same thing for Nora—how soft his eyes had looked.
“Really. I’m fine. Thank you.”
She picked up the jacket and handed it back.
Shane didn’t take it right away. Instead, he reached out and pulled her into his arms. “You’ve been so distant today. Are you mad at me?”
“Am I?” Sarah took a step back. “Maybe you’re just overthinking it.”
He frowned, his gaze locked on hers.
He seemed to be searching for something in her calm, steady eyes—but found nothing.
She placed a hand against his chest, trying to create some space between them. “Can I finish the proposal tomorrow? I’m not in the best headspace tonight.”
“Sure.” Shane’s eyes softened. “You can take your time on the proposal. But don’t push me away.”
Sarah blinked, lifting her eyes to meet his.
His gaze was as gentle as always, but the smile at the corner of his lips felt cold, empty.
As Shane leaned down to kiss her, Sarah turned her head. “This is the office. Didn’t we already talk about this earlier today?”
“But you’ve been turning me down all day,” he murmured, cupping her face with both hands, forcing her to look at him. “You weren’t shy before. Why now, all of a sudden?”
Because she’d seen through everything.
Why would she take the initiative anymore?
“I’m just tired today. I want to go home and rest.”
“But you told me once,” Shane whispered, brushing her cheek, “that you never felt tired when you were with me. Sarah, are you lying to me now?”
“I’m not. I really am just tired.”
She kept her voice as calm as she could, trying not to give in to the impulse to shove him away.
Just as she finished speaking, a sweet, soft voice broke in from behind Shane.
“Shane, I’ve finished writing the proposal you asked for.”
