Chapter 7
Daniel opened the envelope and read every word carefully.
【Daniel, I don’t know if you’ll ever see this letter.】
There’s something I never told you. After your parents died, I was the one who anonymously donated money to you. I was also the one who begged Dad to support you and bring you to live at Morrison Villa.】
【You always told me that you felt you loved me earlier and more, but I don’t think that’s true.)
[Everyone thought I gradually fell for
you after
you came to live with my family. That’s not true. I liked you much earlier than you know.)
【That Christmas summer, when I first saw you at school. It felt like a miracle had happened.】
[I don’t understand why you’re treating me this way.)
[You promised me countless times that you’d be good to me.】
[I kept trying to figure out what made me inferior to Violet. Looking back now, I was so ridiculous. Love is always so unreasonable. Frankie is so much better than you, but I just happened to fall for you, you bastard, instead of him.】

【Actually, I have a feeling I might not be able to hold on much longer.)
【Maybe that’s for the best. The baby in my belly won’t have to endure your cold stares and neglect anymore.】
[Daniel, I never want to love you again.】
By then, my body had become very weak.
By the end, my handwriting was completely messy.
But the hatred between the lines still reached Daniel’s eyes through the letter.
His wrists trembled slightly, and the letter fluttered to the ground.
Daniel’s tears fell heavily onto the paper, making the ink blur.
At first it was just a drop or two, then more and more, unstoppable.
Daniel took the letter, wanting to see Elsie one more time.
But Elsie couldn’t hold on anymore. She struggled in the ICU for half a day but still couldn’t escape death’s grasp.
Before dying, she gritted her teeth and said, “Don’t let Daniel dirty my eyes.”

Daniel didn’t go in to disturb her again, but stood outside the ICU door all night.
He held a grand funeral for Elsie and me.
At the funeral, everyone wore black.
Only Daniel wore the white formal suit reserved for weddings.
Frankie, with his wrist in a cast, looked at him in disbelief: “Daniel, what the hell are you doing? Did you forget today is a funeral?”
Daniel held my photo and smiled strangely: “I know. Today is Harper’s funeral, and also Harper and my wedding.”
The day Daniel and I got married had the same beautiful
weather.
Except that day, Daniel received a phone call and hurriedly left the wedding ceremony without completing the ritual.
Brody was furious, and I was pretty upset too.
But Daniel sincerely apologized to me, saying an old neighbor who had helped him a lot since childhood was critically ill, and he had to go see them.
I was too soft–hearted and even helped him apologize to Brody

and Elsie.
Brody and Elsie thought he was kind–hearted, so they stopped making a big deal about it.
Later, I found out he hadn’t gone to care for an old neighbor that day, but to see Violet who had suddenly fallen ill.
Back then, my heart was full of regret, always thinking about having a makeup wedding ceremony.
But every time, Daniel would brush it off: “That’s such a hassle. Isn’t one wedding enough?”
I never expected that now, when I’ve become nothing but ashes, Daniel would think of having another wedding with me.
Too bad, what I used to beg for, I no longer care about.
I watched coldly as Daniel performed the ceremony with my photo like a madman, feeling absolutely nothing inside.
That boy I once adored had died long ago.
Just like Elsie said, Daniel would only ever be the enemy I’d despise and hate for eternity!
All the guests felt terrified, but no one dared object.
Only Frankie was furious, telling Daniel not to insult my photo,

but he was dragged out by security.
Daniel kissed my photo in front of everyone.
The scene was so horrifying it made people afraid.

As this terrifying and bizarre funeral–wedding was ending, several police officers burst into the scene.

They showed Daniel their badges seriously: “Mr. Kelly, you’re suspected in a torture–murder case. Please come with us to the station for questioning.”
Daniel wasn’t surprised at all.
This man who had risen from poverty to the pinnacle of power through sheer determination smiled and held my photo tighter, asking the officers gently: “Can I bring my wife with me?”
Watching this scene, even the experienced police officers got goosebumps.
