Chapter 17
Grace commuted to work as usual, and naturally, Laurel took on the task of picking up and dropping off their daughter.
Antonio was busy with something, and he had not appeared in Grace’s sight since he moved here a few days ago.
Time passed day by day with these plain and peaceful days.
In the blink of an eye, Christmas arrived.
Since 2016, when Canada designated Christmas as a statutory holiday, Canada has been celebrating Christmas every year, just like America.
It is said that on Christmas Day, there would be grand celebrations on the streets of Toronto Christmas Market, making it very lively.
And it was also heard that there would be people dressed as Santa Claus distributing gifts on the street.
This completely aroused the curiosity of the three people, and the three of them anxiously and excitedly awaited the arrival of Christmas.
Alone in a foreign land, I am a stranger, and on every festive occasion, I miss my family even more.
As Christmas drew closer, Grace’s longing for her parents reached its peak.
I left in the height of summer, and it has been half a year since then.
Apart from occasionally talking to my parents on the phone and sending

them some local specialties, I have never returned to my home country to visit them. It is inevitable that I feel a bit nostalgic in my heart.
When I got home in the evening, I couldn’t wait to dial my parents‘ phone
number.
“Mom and Dad, Christmas is coming soon. What did you and Dad prepare for this year?”
“As usual, isn’t it? Isn’t it like this every year? And how about you over there?” Mom’s voice was always as pleasant as wind chimes, making Grace almost unable to hold back her tears.
“I was doing fine, you know. I heard that over here, people were giving out gifts on the streets for Christmas. Bella was so excited.”
Isabella heard her name and stopped watching TV. She ran over to Grace and sweetly greeted her grandparents.
Several people chatted about various topics for nearly an hour.
Finally, Grace promised that she would definitely go back to visit them in the new year, and reluctantly hung up the phone.
Grace turned her head and looked outside, where the Christmas. atmosphere was becoming stronger and stronger. She marveled at how life is truly a mysterious thing. Before it happened, she had never imagined that she would spend Christmas in Canada in her lifetime.
Fortunately, with my best friend and daughter accompanying me, I felt my heart being filled to the brim as I watched the two childish individuals. fighting over the TV remote.
The clock turned a few more times, and finally, the most important day of Christmas, Christmas Eve, arrived.
On Christmas Eve, of course, we would eat Christmas Cookies. The tradition of many years could not be abandoned just because we moved to a different place.
So the three of them started working in the morning.
Kneading the dough, rolling it flat, cutting it into shapes, and baking it, after a series of actions, the three of them were exhausted.
“I really don’t know how your grandmother managed to do this all by herself.” Grace said, panting heavily.
“I don’t know either, but I do know that the Christmas Cookies made by my grandmother were really delicious,” Isabella replied, her face covered in flour, looking like a little bun, standing next to the table.
Laurel looked at the little pink person next to her, laughing with her. mouth wide open, while she was wrapping Christmas Cookies and pinching Isabella’s face, making Isabella’s little face even more flushed.
The three of them playfully made Christmas Cookies, baked them, and arranged them on a plate.
Grace took a photo and sent it to her parents.
“Mom and Dad, look, we also made Christmas Cookies.”
Half a day had passed since the message was sent, and there was still no response. In the past, the response had always been immediate, so Grace couldn’t help but feel a little worried.
The chattering Christmas carols and the sound of fireworks outside the window heightened her anxiety. She called both of them separately, but no one answered.
The unease in my heart reached its peak.
Chapter 17
Just as Grace was preparing to entrust Isabella to Laurel’s care, while she herself was about to return to her home country overnight.
A cheerful doorbell rang through the house.
Grace got up and opened the door. The moment she saw the visitor, tears welled up in her eyes and her voice trembled.
