The voice disappeared soon, but I still stopped walking.
Antonio should be working overtime at the company. He had been even too busy to answer my phone.
But I saw Antonio through the crack of the door.

I withdrew my gaze and leaned against the wall in anger.

He knew that I would take Isabella to the amusement park. Didn’t he feel weird since I had not checked in with him for a long time?

I took out my phone and called him again.
The ringtone sounded in the ward, followed by Natalie’s voice. “Why don’t you pick it up? Maybe she has something urgent.”
I clenched my phone. But Antonio said, “It’s never urgent. I’ll call her back.”
Meanwhile, I saw him decline the call, and the screen went off gradually.
Suddenly, a bolt of lightning sounded, and the rain poured down.
I looked at the raindrops hitting the windows and gradually calmed down.
I went to the first floor to pay the hospital bills.
Then, I got into the stairwell and dialed another number.
It was answered soon. I took a deep breath and said, “Mr. Patrick, I thought about your offer, and…yes, I’ll go work in the company’s division in Canada.
“Please handle the residence paperwork for my daughter and me and keep
it a secret.
“I don’t want anyone to know about it, including my husband.”
After the phone call, my heartbeat still raced for a long time.

My superior Isaac Patrick made the offer half a month ago, and I turned it down right away because I couldn’t leave my husband and my daughter.
But Isaac asked me to think about it. After all, it was a rare opportunity.
I didn’t expect myself to accept the offer because of the same person, who was Antonio.
Then, I went back to Isabella’s ward.
She hadn’t regained consciousness yet. The nurse glanced at me when she came in to change the dressing over Isabella’s wounds. “Haven’t your wounds been treated? Come with me. I’ll disinfect them for you.
“Then you can go home and get changed. I’ll keep an eye on your daughter.”
Only then did I realize that I was injured too. Because the wounds were not deep, scabs had formed over them. But my clothes were covered in blood, which looked scary.
I said “Thank you” with a nod and walked out with her.
In the early hours of the morning, I got home.
I was about to open the door when I saw a cake on the ground.
I thought for a while and remembered I ordered it in a cake shop days ago.
Our original plan was to go to the amusement park and come back to make dinner together and celebrate my birthday.
However, Antonio stood Isabella up and forgot my birthday.
It was past midnight and not my birthday now.
