Chapter 21
When Dorothy woke up the next day, Emma was already making breakfast.[]
Dwayne didn’t come back last night, and she presumed he was with Sonia and Brenden again.
She pulled out a chair, sat down, and was about to have breakfast when Gianna called her and sobbed, “Dottie, I know you’ve been suffering after marrying Dwayne, but… Please, I’m begging you. Help Rogelio, OK?”
Her words broke Dorothy’s heart.]
So, all along, Gianna knew she had been unhappy.]
But Gianna still didn’t side with her when she said she wanted a divorce.
Clutching the fork, she said in a hoarse voice, “I’ve talked to Dwayne last night.“[]
She didn’t do it for her family, though. She did it for herself.[]
“What did he say?”
“He said ‘Later‘,” Dorothy said truthfully.[]
“I knew you wouldn’t turn a blind eye to us,” Gianna said happily. “I promise we won’t cause you any trouble after this goes away.“]
Then Gianna hung up quickly.[]
It was almost like she was worried Dorothy would change her mind and decide not to help Rogelio.]
Dorothy’s hand froze in mid air for a few seconds before she put down her phone and continued her breakfast, looking calm.
She came back to the hospital at noon.[]
Just as she walked out of the elevator, she saw Sonia chatting with several nurses at the nurse station.[]
Sonia had gifts for all the nurses–a Givenchy lipstick for each.]
“Dr. Frazier, Mr. Lambert is so nice to you!“]
“I’m so envious. Mr. Lambert is a romanticist, isn’t he, Dr. Frazier? You’re totally rubbing your love in our faces.“]
With a smile, Sonia was about to say something when she turned around and saw Dorothy.]
She picked up a gift box and walked over. “Dr. Acosta, here’s a little something. Everyone gets a gift, including you.“]
Dorothy looked down at the box]
Since everyone had a share, if she turned Sonia down now, others might say she was pretentious.[]
