Dwayne would never allow anyone to find fault with him as a husband.[]
Keeping the marriage low profile was just another way to make things easier for himself.]

Dorothy swallowed hard. The bitterness rose.]]
After a long silence, Dwayne wiped his mouth and said flatly. “There’s a surgical robotics conference next week. Take Sonia with you.“]

She stared at him in disbelief. “You want me to take her?“[]
It was one of the biggest events in the country’s medical field. All the top doctors would be there.[]
Sonia was a department head of the Dewbury Medical Center, but everyone knew it was just a title. She only got it thanks to Dwayne.
Knowing all that, he still wanted Dorothy to bring Sonia along.]
Was he really that set on promoting Sonia?]
Dwayne looked at her. “What, you don’t want to?“]
“Maybe get someone else to take her.”
She didn’t say “no,” but it was clear.
His gaze darkened. “I know you’ve got a problem with her. But this isn’t up to you.“]
Dorothy took a deep breath and asked, “You’re trying to promote her, aren’t you?“[]
He didn’t deny it. “So what?”
So what?
She didn’t know.
Dwayne looked at her pale face. He pursed his lips and softened his tone. “Don’t worry. She won’t threaten your position.”
He meant her position as the surgeon and as Mrs. Lambert.[]
But he didn’t say that last part out. He didn’t think it was necessary.
Position?
Dorothy guessed he meant the surgeon
Dorothy suddenly smiled and put down her knife and fork. “Don’t worry, I won’t hold her back.”
She’d be leaving soon anyway.]
She didn’t want the title of Mrs. Lambert anymore
Neither of the positions mattered now.
She stood and walked back to the bedroom.[]
Dwayne watched her go and tapped his fingers on the table. His face sank
