Dorothy didn’t see Dwayne for a whole week.[]
Weston told her to take Sonia to the surgical robotics conference, saying it was Dwayne’s idea. It didn’t surprise her.]

Dorothy left the hospital and waited outside for a bit. Not long after, Sonia texted her, “Sorry, Dr. Acosta. You can go ahead. Dwayne’s driving me over.”

She drove to the Zenith Edifice. Just as she got out of her car, Dwayne’s car pulled up.
Sonia stepped out of the passenger seat. She was dressed up and wore flawless makeup.

Dorothy looked away, pushed down the feeling in her chest, and walked straight into the building.
Inside the lobby, she bumped into someone familiar, Tyrell Calhoun.[]
She used to see Tyrell often when she was Jamal’s student. Tyrell’s and Jamal’s families were longtime friends.
“Dottie?” Tyrell walked over with his usual carefree grin. “What a coincidence. Are you here for the conference too?”
Dorothy nodded. “Yeah.”

She smiled politely. “Pretty good. What about you and Prof. Robertson?”
“I’m alright. Jamal’s been missing you, though.”
Just then, Sonia’s voice rang out.]
“Dr. Acosta, why didn’t you wait for me?“]
Dorothy turned around. Right behind Sonia stood Dwayne.
Before she could respond, Sonia looked between her and Tyrell, blinking innocently. “Dr. Acosta, is this your boyfriend?“]
Dwayne’s gaze swept past Dorothy to Tyrell and darkened a little. “You’re dating now, Mr. Calhoun?”
Tyrell was stunned. “Dating?“]

To be fair, Dorothy was his type. She was the campus beauty at the med school legend.[]

Sonia chuckled. “They do look cute together.”
Seeing Dwayne stay silent, Dorothy slowly unclenched her fist. She turned to Tyrell. “Tyrell, let’s head up. We shouldn’t interrupt Mr. Lambert and his girlfriend.“[]
Sonia froze for a second, thrilled with joy.
Dorothy looked nice in her eyes now.]
Tyrell frowned, glancing between Sonia and Dwayne. Then he remembered a rumor he saw on Twitter.[]
He didn’t say a word but followed Dorothy into the elevator.
Sonia grabbed Dwayne’s arm, her voice soft and sweet. “Dwayne, let’s…“[]
He pulled his arm away and stopped the door just as the elevator was about to close.[]
“Tyrell, you don’t mind if we join you, do you?“]]
His voice was icy, and his face blank.
Tyrell shrugged. “Sure. Come on in.”
Dorothy stood quietly next to Tyrell and lowered her eyes.[]
Dwayne stepped in and stood beside her. She shifted closer to Tyrell without a word.
When Sonia entered the elevator, she looked at Dwayne and then glanced at Dorothy. Her hands slowly were clenched into fists.

The elevator door opened, and more people were squeezing in. Dorothy tried to move closer to Tyrell to make space for them.]
