Chapter 10
[How does that make you feel?] came Liam’s next text.[]
I didn’t reply.]
Liam quickly followed up. “Just kidding. The report is fake.“]
“But be honest. When you saw that report, didn’t you feel a pang of jealousy? Could you really handle Hannah having my baby?”
I found it almost funny.]]
But I hadn’t realized it until he said it.]
Before, seeing him with another girl would make my blood boil with jealousy. I’d flush, and my heart would race.[]
But now, I glanced at my reflection. My face was composed, as calm as ever.]]
Even my fitness tracker confirmed it. I was completely fine with the idea of Liam belonging to someone else.[]
I wasn’t going to reply.[]
But thinking about Hannah’s past provocations, and not wanting any more trouble, I decided to be direct.[]
“Since you have a new girlfriend, you should stop crossing boundaries. You wouldn’t want her to get the wrong idea.“]
After I sent the message, the “typing” indicator for Liam blinked on and off for several minutes.[]
Finally, he replied.
“Claire, keep pretending.“]
“Let’s see how long you can keep this act up.“[]
“If you didn’t still love me, why would you be watching me so closely? Don’t think I didn’t see you stalking my profile and accidentally liking my post.“[]
It was laughable.[]
Liam had never paid attention to me before, never noticed such small details.]
It seemed that being with Hannah had really changed him.]
Nine years with me, and he hadn’t changed. But for Hannah, he did.[]
Before I could say anything. Liam continued: “Nothing has happened between me and Hannah. She only agreed to go along with this to help us get back together.“]
“Out of respect for her, I’ll give you one last chance.“]

I let out a faint, dry laugh.]
“No, thanks.”
Then I hung up.
He probably still thought his provocations would make me come back.
But that was fine. In time, he would understand that I was serious about the breakup.[]
I also knew that his attempts to win me back weren’t because he still loved me. spread if our breakup became public.]
Flirting with Hannah was one thing.
But actually breaking up with me for her was another.[]
I ignored him and continued to focus on my career.[]
That night, Olivia and I successfully closed the deal.[]
Olivia was thrilled and introduced me to several other CEOs in our industry.]]
He was just afraid of the gossip that would
Right away, Olivia introduced me as her business partner. They all treated me with respect, and I was genuinely flattered.]]
I had met CEOs at a similar level when I was with Liam, but he always presented me less as a partner and more as an immature employee.]]
Over time, they started treating me with the same disrespect, sometimes even asking me to run errands for them.]
But I couldn’t entirely blame him.[]
Liam was wrong, but wasn’t the old me the one who enabled him?[]
After a few drinks, we all hit it off, feeling like we should have met years ago.
At some point, one of the female CEOs leaned in and whispered, “Claire, did you piss someone off? I just saw your name on our industry’s blacklist.“]
