Chapter 29
Liam’s POV:
Every day after Claire left was a torment of anxiety and regret.]]
I admit I favored Hannah, felt sorry for her. But Claire was the one I loved. I never saw it as a conflict.[]
Hannah would ask when I was going to break up with Claire. I’d put her off, tell her to wait. I knew she would. And I knew Claire would never leave me.[
After all, we had been together for ten years. I believed she wouldn’t give up on us.]]
So when she said she wanted to break up, I wasn’t particularly worried.[]
At first, I thought she was just throwing a tantrum. But then I saw her growing colder, more distant. Until finally, the love was gone from her eyes.[]
That’s when the panic finally set in.]
I tried to win her back, but she shut me out every time.]]
Hannah offered to help. “Women know women,” she said.[]
So I listened. I flaunted my relationship with Hannah, sent Claire the fake pregnancy report. But I didn’t understand. She just seemed to be getting further and further away.]]
When she stood me up and fled the country to avoid me, I completely broke down. I didn’t understand why I had to be so subservient. In a fit of anger, I accepted Hannah’s confession of love.
When I heard she was back, I got very drunk. I don’t remember what happened that night. I think I went to see Claire, but then Hannah took me away.
A month later, I found out Hannah was pregnant. I finally decided to forget about Claire. But for some reason, the situation kept getting worse. I worked day and night to investigate, only to find that the one who had stabbed me in the back company’s
was Hannah.]

I was devastated.]]
Hannah was remorseful and regretful in front of me. I still felt sorry for her and decided to help her. I thought, Claire is successful now. Even if she’s held back a little, it won’t be a big deal. But Hannah is still young. I wanted to give her a chance.]]
But that day, Claire fixed my leaky pipe and even took out the trash for me. I stood on the bedroom balcony and watched her squatting down to feed a stray kitten.
After she left, Hannah came back from down the road.]
She walked up to the kitten and paused for a second.[]
Suddenly, she kicked the kitten, which was quietly eating.]
Chapter 29
In that moment, I felt like I had been struck by lightning.
I suddenly realized that I was rotten to the core.]
Fortunately, there was one last chance to turn back.]
I had never done anything to help Claire in my entire life. Just this once, let me help her.
Consider it my atonement.[
