As I was packing my bag, ready to wander the world alone, I saw Lyren, Zephyr, and Jarek waiting for me at the inn’s entrance.Â
“A life saved should be repaid in kind,” Jarek said, his icy blue eyes full of sincerity. “But the border is in turmoil, and I cannot abandon my men. Nor do I wish to cage you. If you ever wish to find me, you can.” He handed me a jade amulet from his belt. I accepted it.Â
Zephyr had a roguish grin on his face. “You’ve caught my attention. You’re not getting rid of me that easily.”Â
“Since my heart is already in turmoil and my path is broken,” Lyren said with a smile, “perhaps it is time to try a new way of life.”Â
I raised an eyebrow, tacitly accepting their company.Â
In the distance, Kael and Julian watched us leave.Â
“Lord Kael, a message from the Master. The Grand Tournament is about to begin. We must return at once.”Â
He watched us for a long time before finally nodding.Â
