Chapter 22
Back at the Lynch residence, Samuel still had no idea about Frank’s plans for him. Finding Catherine was the only thing on his mind now.
He kept sending gifts to Frank, even arranging for Alice’s gravestone to be refurbished. But everything he sent was returned, untouched.
But he didn’t care. He simply told his people to keep sending more.
At the same time, the people he’d sent abroad to track down Catherine at the Jackman residence were forced to return. Some weren’t even allowed out of the country.
“What did you say?”
When Samuel heard for the second time that his people had been blocked from leaving the country, he could no longer sit still.
After Frank kicked him out, a thought suddenly crossed his mind. While he didn’t know whether Catherine had forgiven Frank or not, he must’ve returned to Caelora with her approval.
Otherwise, things would’ve escalated further.
That could only mean she was overseas. And there was only one place abroad Samuel hadn’t searched because he never thought she would go back there–the Jackman residence.
At first, he wasn’t sure. But after his people kept getting sent back, he finally confirmed his suspicion–Catherine was there.
Just as he hurried out of the door and was about to tell his assistant to book a flight, a sharp voice rang out behind him.
“Stop right there!”
He turned to see his grandfather, Logan Lynch, standing at the top of the stairs.
“If you’re thinking about going abroad to look for Cathy, forget it.”
“Grandpa!” Samuel’s chest tightened as he took a few steps back. “Why not?”
A year ago, Logan had gone abroad for health reasons. He never expected that in just one year, his grandson would’ve caused such a scene.
He’d tried to knock some sense into Samuel before, but he was too enamored with Natalie to listen.
Now that Catherine was gone, only then did he finally come to his senses. But it was already too late.
Leaning on his cane, Logan glared at his grandson. “To think you have the nerve to ask!”
Samuel clenched his fists. “I know this is mostly my fault, but I need to talk to her. She divorced me without my consent!”
п
‘And did you cheat with her consent?”
“I obviously…”
He suddenly fell silent, and memories he had long buried resurfaced in his mind.
When he’d first brought up keeping a mistress, Catherine had completely lost it. She even asked for a divorce.
Eut instead of agreeing, he’d promised her that it was just a fling–he’d come back to her once he got it out of his system.
Eventually, she stopped bringing it up. He had assumed she’d accepted it.
But everything she’d done afterward clearly said otherwise.
“She didn’t agree to it,” Logan said, watching Samuel’s face twist with realization. “She left because she was utterly disappointed in you.
“I told you not to let her down, so what happened now is your own doing. From now on, you’ll have to live with the consequences. Don’t expect her to come back.”
Then he turned to the butler. “Keep an eye on him. Make sure he doesn’t cause any more trouble.”
“Yes, sir.”
Without saying another word, Samuel trudged back to his room. He didn’t come out for several days.
Once he stopped showing up outside Alice’s gallery, the place became quiet again. Seeing that his annoying figure no longer appeared on the gravel path outside, Frank finally felt a bit more at ease.
He hadn’t been back in nearly five years, and it had been a while since he spent time with his wife. So now, he planned to stay in Caelora for good and leave everything abroad in Catherine’s hands.
Not long after, Frank celebrated his first birthday back home. But Catherine didn’t return to celebrate with him and only had someone send him the gift she prepared for him abroad
