Jackson’s gaze swept towards the outside, seeing the crowd gathered. His heart tightened, and he couldn’t help but mutter to himself, “Chloe can’t still be outside, can she? The sun is so scorching today. What if she gets heatstroke? She’s too stubborn…”
When the staff handed the marriage cate to him
and Ashley, his buddies finally set off the confetti.
“Congratulations, Jackson! You finally got what you wanted!”
Colorful ribbons floated down onto Jackson’s head.
Ashley smiled, standing on tiptoes to pick the streamers from his hair.
Jackson, who should have been happily documenting his wedding, roughly brushed away the people blocking him.
As he rushed out, Sarah was lifting my body into her car.
“Sarah Thompson, stop right there! Where are you taking Chloe?!”
He demanded, taking three steps at once to reach my best friend, Instinctively reaching for my hand. “Chloe, stop messing around. Come back and let’s remarry.”
But the touch was ice–cold,
That chilling sensation sent a shiver down Jackson’s spine, making him tremble. He had a bad feeling and yanked his hand back as if shocked by electricity.
Sarah shoved him away, her expression cold. “Jackson Hayes, you don’t deserve to be with her.”
The next second, Sarah drove away with my body.
<
I wanted to go with Sarah, but to my dismay, I could only move within a twenty–meter radius centered on Jackson Hayes.
The System’s explanation was that Jackson had once been my conquest target.
Helpless, I could only stand there, frustrated, watching him remain rooted to the spot.
Soon, his buddies also came out, smiling, putting their arms around him. “Alright, Jackson, Chloe’s just being difficult and throwing a` tantrum. Now that you’re married to Ashley, shouldn’t you treat us to a nice meal?”
Seeing Jackson silent, a flicker of coldness passed through Ashley’s eyes. Then she spoke understandingly, “Jackson, let’s quickly post on SnapChat. Once the dare is complete, we can get divorced. I’ll give you back to Chloe.”
Jackson finally snapped back to attention and nodded heavily.
He pulled out his phone, but instead of posting, he sent Sarah a message: “Did Chloe get heatstroke? Make sure you take her to the hospital. I’ll visit her later.”
Then he took out the marriage certificate, casually snapped a photo with Ashley, and posted it on SnapChat.
Eight years of obsession, fulfilled in an instant.
Jackson clutched his chest, feeling strange.
His fingers weren’t trembling. His heart rate was still steady. There was none of the breathless excitement he’d imagined.
After posting on SnapChat, he looked at Ashley. “So, shall we go get divorced now?”
Suddenly, his buddies erupted in an uproar.
“Wait, Jackson, are you serious? We finally forced Chloe to divorce you. Aren’t you going to take Ashley on a honeymoon, fulfill your past regrets? You’re actually going to divorce now?”
I was also astonished.
What was going on with Jackson?
Ashley’s eyes turned bloodshot. She fiddled with her phone a few times, then shrieked, covering her mouth.
Jackson’s attention was drawn to her. He habitually asked her gently, “What’s wrong?”
Ashley grabbed his sleeve and pleaded, “Jackson, my family just forced me to go on a blind date. They said I’m old enough and want to marry me off to an old man. But I don’t want to get married yet. Can you help me out and pretend to be my husband?”
“This…” Jackson hesitated for the first time.
The old him would have agreed without a second thought.
Ashley acted even harder. “Don’t worry, once we’ve dealt with my family, I’ll definitely cooperate with the divorce. I can put in a good word for you with Chloe, she shouldn’t be angry!”
Jackson finally nodded slowly.
He didn’t forget to message me: “Chloe, I have something to tell you. Please don’t be angry, our remarriage might be delayed for a few days. Don’t worry, I’ll make the wedding incredibly lavish, I promise you’ll be proud.”
This was probably the kindest he’d been to me in seven years.
The old me would always reply to his messages instantly.
Now, I could no longer reply to him.
Jackson specifically waited for two minutes.
Receiving no reply, he looked disappointed.
“Petty.”
He pursed his lips. The next second, he actually transferred a million dollars to me.
