Chapter 9
Everyone called Colin a devil, and that crossing him always ended badly.
I thought Ivan would be wary.
But he showed no fear, only wiped the blood from the corner of his. mouth.
Before I could react, they were locked in a brawl.
Cathy screamed instinctively.
She stumbled forward, desperately trying to pull Ivan away.
“Mr. Gibson, stop! Jane doesn’t love you anymore. No matter how much you cling to her, she won’t come back!
“She’s with Mr. Stanton now, why would she go back with you?
“Why cling to a woman who can’t even bear children?
“But it’s okay. You still have me. I’ll give you as many children as you want!”
She looked at me smugly.
I couldn’t help but sneer.
How stupid did you have to be to think the only way to keep a man was by having his children?
As I expected, Ivan wasn’t moved by her words.
He turned and punched Cathy in the stomach.
His eyes filled with a fierceness she never expected.
“Who the hell needs you to have my kids?
“If you hadn’t begged me to keep those damn bastards, I wouldn’t have lost
Jane!
“If you’re so eager to have kids, I’ll make sure you have plenty.”
Ignoring Cathy’s screams, he coldly ordered his assistant to drag her away.
Before leaving, he reminded the assistant to send her to the slums.
That place was always full of homeless people. Cathy’s fate would be grim.
After she was dragged away with her mouth covered, Ivan finally snapped back to reality.
He looked up at me, his voice hoarse as he begged, “Jane, I’ll get rid of her for good this time. Can you give me one more chance?”
Colin was furious and tried to attack again, but I held him back.
My eyes filled with pain, and I traced the scars on his face.
When I looked up again, my eyes were cold.
“Ivan, you only disgust me now. How could I give you another chance?
“You’re right. I might not be able to have kids in the future. So what?
“Colin and I don’t care. Children are the fruit of love, not a must–have in life.
“Get out and never show your face to me again. That’s the only way you can compensate me!”
No matter how loudly Ivan shouted, I ignored him.
I smiled warmly, linked my arm with Colin’s, and walked firmly toward my own happiness.
After that day, I never saw Ivan again.
I only heard he returned to America alone, raising three children in
solitude.
After we married, Colin and I didn’t try for a baby.
But to our surprise, I became pregnant.
Colin was over the moon, almost crazy with joy, and he looked after me meticulously throughout my pregnancy.
On the day our daughter was born, he even prayed on his knees earnestly for us outside the delivery room.
After we were discharged, I happened to see a news report back home.
Ivan had tried to commit suicide multiple times due to severe depression. His family had no choice but to send him to a mental hospital.
I indifferently closed the browser window.
Looking up, I met Colin’s smiling eyes.
Bathed in sunlight, he held our daughter, playfully teasing her.
Her joyful giggles echoed around me.
In that instant, happiness healed all my wounds.
Hardship wasn’t terrifying; people just needed to keep growing toward the light.

And my life was finally shining brighter than ever.
